Whodunit?
« on: January 21, 2015, 03:51:56 PM »
How good are you at guessing the killer / double agent / criminal in tv shows?

I impressed myself by getting a death vibe for this show today. I guessed the wrong member of the couple but the death vibe was still right!
I won't say the show in case it gives spoilers.

I'm generally quite good at avoiding the red herrings in tv murder shows and tracking down the real killer - of course it helps when the secretary showing the detectives in to see the prime suspect is easy to recognise as someone who usually gets a speaking role, lol.

Are there many crime fans around? How good are you at guessing whodunit? What are your tips for spotting the guilty party?

I'm good in some things. I read a LOT of Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Sherlock Holmes type stuff as a kid and read true crime novels till I had kids of my own. Many see but do not observe.

Sometimes, but usually I try not to so I can just enjoy the story and see how it goes.

Hubby predicted the killer in the movie "Devil" in the first few minutes. I guessed the twist / ending of "The Illusionist" movie.

I do pretty well with the earlier seasons of Law & Order: Criminal Intent and the original Sherlock Holmes stories.

I'm awful at anything else! XD

I usually figure it out by thinking of how I would write it. Sort of how "Castle" solves things.

I sometimes watch reruns of Law & Order Criminal Intent & SVU. I'm so-so at guessing.

Tips: Always rule out the first couple suspects interviewed as red herrings. Consider that top-billed guest stars or ones who are the most famous will have a large part in the story to display their acting skills, often as the culprit. If a body is not shown on camera, consider alternatives other than murder. Give good consideration to those characters who are introduced briefly early on to give background info about a victim. Those characters are often revisited and frequently guilty.

I am pretty good at it. I grew up reading Nancy Drew, Hercule Poirot, Miss Marple and Sherlock Holmes and I usually got it. It's not so much observing but a tingeling feeling at the back of my neck and it's usually right. I did guess wrong big time during first season of Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I was so pd off! I walked right into it, lol.

I've actually stopped watching shows like NCIS, Experts, ... because I always figured out whodunit and was bored for the rest of the show. Oh and I annoyed my family because they never guessed right. Lol

Usually pretty useless :P (probably not helped by the fact I am always doing something else while watching so always miss chunks of the show out). However I loooove crime shows and movie thrillers - watch just about any I can find :)

Sometimes I'm good at it, but usually I'm caught off guard and that's how I like it.  I like suspenseful shows and movies because of the fact that I never know the villain until the end and it holds my attention.

I'm terrible at it! I can never figure out how the crime was done, who was the criminal, etc. It's pitiful!

I did guess wrong big time during first season of Marvels Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and I was so pd off! I walked right into it, lol.

Argh, that twist in SHIELD's first season! I wanted to write angry letters to the writers when they revealed it.
