Are Equestria Girls The Future Of MLP?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but I see more Equestria Girls stuff than actual MLP stuff, mainly brushables.  Like, if you go to TRU like half a section of a small MLP aisle is Equestria Girls.  Don't get me wrong, the movies are cute but I'd rather have MLP be actual ponies instead of humanoid ones.

Thanks.   I wasn't sure since EQ can be FIM too but I guess that's mainly the TV series.

It's worth mentioning that EQG dolls take up more room individually than pony boxes/cards, because they're bigger. So even if the numbers are the same, more space will be needed for the dolls. And all the licensed stuff is almost 100% pony, not human.

I sure hope it isn't the future of MLP, although it could just be the future of the G4 line?  Like... a new gen of ponies can come along, but Equestria girls dolls based off of G4 ponies will still be a thing.  I dunno.

I do like that we've been getting new pony toys lately, but who knows how long that'll last.  EqG is certainly taking the spotlight.

Also, I agree, I like the movies just fine.  The dolls bother me because they don't even look like the same characters from the movies and there's like... no articulation, so there isn't even that to make me want to get them.  But they seem to be a hit with little girls, and in the end that's all that really matters.

I think it's because the EQ dolls are still "new" compared to ponies, so it makes sense that they're being more marketed right now to give them attention for sales. They have a lot of other dolls to compete with, so they really need to stand out, whereas ponies sort of have the lead in that particular area.  I definitely don't think ponies are going to go anywhere or disappear though.

I don't really get the Equestria Girl thing. I mean, how does a world of self-sufficient ponies translate into high school humanoid girls??  It's like they were just created to transition younger pony fans into dolls as they age, which is understandable from a marketing/business standpoint, but still...  And I don't know a lot about the Equestria Girls story, but it doesn't seem much like the overall pony story value-wise, empowering girls-wise, etc.  I don't get it.

I don't think so. I think once the Monster High thing fades, then Hasbro will go back to making ponies their priority. Dolls must be the in thing right now; I don't see pony fakies much any more, but there are loads and loads of knock-off MH, etc, dolls about. Hasbro have made it quite clear they're more interested in chasing a fad than giving any thought to long-term, or would-be long-term fans. I like the dolls, I just wish they weren't so expensive (I can buy 3 playful ponies for the price of one basic doll), and yet so cheaply made.

I hope not. I really don't like the idea of it to begin with, but as for now I can just kind of brush it off, it's not like I have to buy them or they're killing off ponies.

However, I did go to TRU the other day and saw they had a few new characters... Ponies have been getting new releases too, but they're hardly focused on. And I mean, it is My Little PONY.

That would be really saddening... I mean, the franchise is called My Little Pony for a reason!

Although I don't dislike the movies, I've regarded the general Equestria Girls phenomenon as not for me, and that's fine, the series is and will always be targeted at a much younger demographic, but if the MLP brand was replaced by the Equestria Girls brand I would no longer be able to be so passive about it.

Nevertheless, I don't think that's going to happen.
