Head/body discoloration: is it fixable?
« on: January 09, 2015, 11:13:37 AM »
Because I can't stand it  :pullhair:

Luckily, it doesn't happen to a rare pony: this case is a fakie I bought from Poland. Depending of the light you can appreciate that the plastic of her head is different from her body's (and her body is squishier than her head) so her body is more of a 'transparent white' and her head is like 'solid white' (lol do I explain myself well? If not I'll add pics) and it looks very weird because it looks like she's wearing a mask or something.

I don't think sunfading will do something but I might try... any other ideas?

Most suggest putting something around the neck to give a bit of separation. Ribbon or a necklace maybe.

I have successfully sunfaded a sugar apple, baby sunribbon,  and scoops who had this problem. I stuck whichever half was darker in the window for a few weeks to a few months and they turned out great! Now I don't think this will work with all ponies, but who knows

The problem with plastic and sun is that in the long term too much sun may make the plastic prone to brittle or break easy, it makes it very dry

I really like the ribbon idea. I need to get some ribbon and do that with my discolored ponies :D it makes me quite sad to see their mismatched heads and bodies.

It kind of depends whats causing the discolouration. If its yellowing perhaps due to surface oils, you can normally do something and get less of a difference. Sometimes if its due to one part of the plastic fading due to exposure to the elements, then by covering it up and only exposing the other part you, again, can get a modicum of similarity. But if its simply the 2 different plastic batches ageing and therefore changing colour (or perhaps having been different colours at the point of manufacture) at their own speed and way unfortunately you cant do anything.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
