Watercolor Seapony hair - Inquiry
« on: January 05, 2015, 09:25:04 AM »
I'm on a massive spree of restoring my collection as accurately as possible.  I keep setting aside my watercolor seaponies, as I don't have a good idea on what to do with their hair.  Now they're the last thing on my list to do!

So here is my question: Has anyone made a custom or done a restoration with the same hair used in the watercolor sea ponies?  It's quite soft to the touch, not at all like the typical nylon hair on other ponies.  It's silky and fluffy/fuzzy, and (as I've read) changes color in warm water (although mine have long since lost that ability).  It's almost like a silky yarn.

Anyone have experience with this material that knows what it is?

I recommend a thermal-sensitive saran.  Sadly I don't know of an identical material available now.

Agreed, there are UV sensitive hair types and thermal hair types, but I don't know of any supplies with water changing hair. :(

I think it just a thermal hair.

I recommend a thermal-sensitive saran.  Sadly I don't know of an identical material available now.

I think that is what I may end up replacing it with.  I'm attached to the idea of them still changing with warm water, even though I don't know if they'll ever see a bath tub again.     Maybe I'll just take a warm blow dryer if I want to see the color change.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I have to say that this super soft silky fluffy hair is not the right texture when you have a pony straight from the card. I have a few of them in original shape and it is like yarn that splits during the time when it come in contact with water. So you probably should more lean to a color changeing thread instead of thermal saran hair. I PM you about that today and probably we can find a solution...
