Cleaning a drink 'n wet baby -give me your tips
« on: December 29, 2014, 10:32:04 AM »
Ok Ponyverse, who can give me tips on how to open an clean a DnW baby?  I know there's a tube inside, but it looks like it's probably been cracked or something, because she's clearly got mold inside her.  Other than the tube, is there anything else I should expect to see?  Also, is it possible to keep the tube intact when I take her head off, or should I not bother trying?

Thanks,

Elf

Eh, just rip her apart. You can re-attach the tube to the backside and get it attached to the front again, then the head goes on. I've ripped Flicker apart to re-hair and she did go back together. It was a bit tricky but can be done.

Cool, thanks!  I wasn't sure if there was anything more to worry about with the set up.

I'd love to see pics! I don't know that I've ever seen the inside of a DnW.

I was sure there were some pictures floating around of a DnW taken apart but I cant find them...hmmm...

Its been a while since I had to dismantle one but I agree with mlp4me, in comparison to a lot of the other mechanised (maybe not the right word in this circumstance) ponies they are relatively straight forward to take apart and put back together. Its more finiky than something thats easily damaged; you can also buy the plastic piping from a lot of hardware or medical supply stores (although you will have to buy it in quite large lengths normally which could make it silly to do).

Good luck!

Thanks folks, she did come apart quite easily in the end (and had so much rust. So. Much. Rust!)  I'll get some pics up tomorrow before I try putting her back together.

I'm fairly certain at one time I had posted interior pics, but they have long since been deleted from PB. I don't have much self control when it comes to ripping ponies apart for restoration. Best of luck with your cleaning!

Now with pictures!

I was expecting mold when I pulled her apart, but it turned out to be only rust instead - the washer on her tail was completely broken down.  Most of it came out ok, and she looks much cleaner now.  The tube is cleaner than it looks, just discoloured from the rust.  I did put the tube back inside, but it's not properly connected.  In any case, I certainly won't be "trying her out."

Thanks! Wouldn't it have been nice if Hasbro had decided not to put rusting metal in toys meant to be in the water?

With G1's, I don't think they were worried about it. If they toy was ruined you could buy another! Heavy metal weights in sea ponies... No problem!

Main reason I don't collect sea ponies, right there. Those things do get nasty on the inside!
