Original Coraline Book--How Was It? Interested In Buying...
« on: December 18, 2014, 04:38:30 PM »
OK so I'm a fan of Tim Burton films, especially Coraline.   I only have the movie and I downloaded the ending credits song to my Ipod yesterday.  I saw this movie a while ago so this isn't new for me.

However, I did find out only recently that Coraline was originally a book, which came out a while ago.  Has anyone read it?  If so what did you think.  I looked on amazon and I think this is the original cover art for the original book....

I say original book because I know there are movie versions of the book too.  I read some reviews on amazon and quite a few people say it's creepy and shouldn't be considered a children's book.

Thanks in advance for answers.

It's fabulous! My daughter's 5th grade class read it. I've read it and The Graveyard book. Both are a little creepy, Coraline is more like a Hitchcock type and the Graveyard book would be for older kids?
If you saw the movie and enjoyed it, then you will like the book. (I still love the visuals of the movie but they did take some liberties with the story so it's harder to watch it now.)

It's a great book. I liked it a lot better than the movie. Neil Gaiman is my favorite author. I would recommend anything written by him.

i read and was totally creeped out. *shudders* button eyes
the audio is actually read by Neil Gaiman, so if you have a project you want to work on, put it on in the background and prepare for a thrill.

it was well written, but not my favorite. too much spooky creepy for me. prefer the fantasy/sci fi to the supernatural stuff though.

I read it too and really liked it.  Probably not good for young kids; more of a young adult book.
Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.

It's a good book, it differs from the movie in ways, but if you enjoyed the movie, I think you'll like the book.

Thanks everyone.  I think I will get it after Christmas, or with Christmas money or gift cards. :)

Oh wow, you're right.  Neither is The Nightmare Before Christmas.  How deceiving.

I found this on google:

The director of both Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) was Henry Selick. It is often assumed, since Nightmare is sometimes credited as Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas, that Burton directed that film.
