Question about using regular rhinestones for TEs?
« on: December 04, 2014, 10:28:05 AM »
I know this is probably a dumb question but, for those of us who don't have twinkle eye style rhinestones as I can't find any in craft stores do you think its possible to use a bedazzler to make them stick on permanently? Or do I just have to stick with regular super glue?

I don't know what a bedazzler is so I'm going to go with superglue

Its like this little device where you place a rhinestone in and it punches the rhinestone into jackets, shoes and other stuff

Not sure how you'd get a pony head into one of those to be honest? Personally I use 2 part epoxy glue and I carve the iris out with a sharp scalpel. :)

The easier way is probably gluing on a flatback rhinestone and it still looks fine.  Setting the stone from inside the head by cutting out the iris and putting some sort of durable clay behind it, as mentioned above, is the most durable and clean looking method, imo.

yep. like berry said, cutting the eye out, beveling the edges a bit on the inside to help socket the eye in place, and packing magic sculpt or some other putty behind it makes the best fit imo.

eta: make sure the scalple/Xacto you use doesnt have a swiveling blade. :silly:

Sometimes super glue can have a bad effect of the rhinestones. I'd do what the others have suggested. If you are gluing rhinestones on in general I recommend a glue called "Jewel-It" that they sell at Michaels and Joanns.

This. I've tried other methods and this works best for me, hands down,
