WARNING: Do not buy from Modcloth online!

I purchased the 'May The Horse Be With You' My Little Pony mug off of Modcloth for a great price, around the same price as I would have gotten it in stores- which they don't carry it in my area. I had never ordered from Modcloth as they are typically more expensive than other websites, but this mug was the right price for me.

The shipping time was fine. I ordered it on 11/8 and received it today on 11/13. But when I found it on my doorstep, it was in a flimsy non-cushioned mailer. When I picked it up, I could feel that it was broken already. This is what I found.

I suggest you buy your Modcloth items in a store location (if there are any) and not online. They obviously do not know how to ship their fragile items. I will never be buying from them again.

On the bright side, their customer support is very kind and understanding and they are shipping me a new mug free of charge- and better packaged.

That stinks.  I've ordered from them once (though it was a dress) and it was fine, but yikes.  Points to them for great customer service at least!

I've bought from them lots of times, and only housewares items(no clothes). I do a large percentage of my Christmas shopping with them every year, and I place some big orders with a lot of delicate stuff. I've bought quite a bit of fragile stuff from them, including a really nice teapot and 5 little ceramic pots, and only one item ever arrived broken.  I contacted them through their customer service chat about the broken item, and they had a new item out to me within a couple of hours.  The new item arrived perfectly safely.  Their customer service is really good, and I'm pretty sure you can contact them before your order ships to ask them to pack extra carefully if you're concerned.

I wouldn't say their packing is good, but it's no worse than amazon, thinkgeek, or any of the other online retailers. The mailer thing was pretty bad, but I've seen some pretty bad packing jobs from a lot of other places as well.

I order the majority of my work clothes from ModCloth. They are consistently kind and respectful with their customer service. I received an order that had scuff marks on the shoes and I was able to contact them using their chat forums and had a free shipping label printed and a new order sent out in 15 minutes.

They obviously made things right. I hope they update their fragile shipping practices, but I'm sure your new item will be sent better.

I find their shipping to be on par with a lot of online services. Someone must have not been thinking when they sent your mug.

I've never had problems with Modcloth, so I'm not going to just stop shopping there. Although, one would think with a fragile item it would have been packaged nicer. Too bad that happened, but at least they made it right.

It sounds like one should be cautious when ordering fragiles  from this place, but not to avoid it completely  

Im glad the customer service was great.  That's a big key in wanting to get something from a place again.

I've always heard good things about ModCloth, but then again, that was all from people who order clothes from there.  This isn't going to keep me from placing my first order with them next week, but it's great to hear that their customer service was easy to deal with.  Maybe they're just bad at shipping fragile things?    I'm sorry that happened to you, but thank goodness they're sending you a replacement!  I'll be sure to just buy clothes from them.

I feel like this might have been a fluke. I order quite a bit from modcloth and always received all my items very nicely packaged. Granted, I primarily purchase clothes, but I did once order a porcelain bunny shaped ring holder and it arrived double boxed and without any problems.

I sure hope you're right. Whoever packed this better have been reprimanded.

Thats too bad that tha happened, but I for one will not stop shpping there.
