Need some help with a Christmas Prank
« on: November 06, 2014, 09:40:09 PM »
So I've got this friend who REFUSES to buy new socks. :yikes: He will wear his socks until they have MULTIPLE holes the size of baseballs in them and will not throw them out until he physically cannot put the sock on his foot anymore. This infuriates me and my friends! :enraged: So, every Christmas we all buy him socks. It both amuses and angers him. One year we bought the most horrible socks we could find, the next we put them weird places for him to stumble across. :lmao: This year we all decided we were going to send him socks through the mail from foreign countries so he would, throughout the month of December, receive several boxes from people he's never heard of in another country, containing nothing but socks without an explanation! Only one problem, I don't know anyone who doesn't live in the United States and I'm not sure how many of my friends do either. :wonder: That's where I need some help. If don't live in the USA, and could help us out, that would be awesome!  :lovey:

Here's how it will work:

1. You don't live in the USA! Yay!
2. You agree to help me and volunteer in the thread because you are a wonderful person (and have a positive trade count)!
3. I PM you and ask for your address!
4. You PM me back with your address!
5. I send you some socks in the mail!
6. Once you receive the socks, you put the socks and the socks alone in a box/envelope/whatever with the address I provide you and figure out how much it's going to cost to ship them back to the USA and send me the cost through PM!
7. I pay you for the shipping and materials through Paypal!
8. You send the socks in December!
9. My friend is receives socks from strange places and is confused, but now has actually functional socks to wear!
10. YAY! Christmas fun has been achieved!

If anyone could help me out with this, it would be fantastic! Thanks a bunch, guys!

Great prank!! I'm definitely interested in helping you out if you're ok with the lame shipping costs from Australia

This is a really cute idea.  However I think it's going to be a LOT more cost effective for you if you have the other person buy the socks (so you pay them to buy the socks and for their shipping).  Unless you're wanting a really specific sock I think you're adding a lot of unneeded cost by shipping the socks to the person overseas and then paying for them to ship it back.

I agree with this. Also for time reasons. Oversees shipping can take 3-4 weeks, so to send it overseas and then have it sent back you'd be running really down to the wire for Christmas. Maybe give people ideas of good socks to look for. Then he'd be getting truly international socks!

It sounds funny, but expensive. Is it really worth it? You're going to spend a fortune on this prank!

Like others have said, for cost efficiency and timeliness' sake you may just want to have them buy the socks. Other than that it sounds fun! Good luck with your prank!

That said if you decide international is too expensive, or if you open it up to the states as well I'd be happy to participate. :3

I think that's a good idea. He'd still be getting packages from a bunch of strangers in different states. You could try to get a person from each state to send him some socks.

If you send the money I'll happily buy the most cheap tacky British looking pair of socks I can find and send them.

I think you could find a lot of stateside participants willing to get in on this, too.  A pair of socks in a little bubble mailer or envelope would be pretty reasonable.  I' totally be on board if you do decide to open it up as an "Everyone From Everywhere Please Send This Man A Pair Of Socks" event.
Thank you, brightberry, for my lovely avi.
