Funko Princess Luna & Celestia pre-order @ Hot Topic! Arriving November

I had actually received 10 Luna instead of the 5 Luna 5 Celestia I had ordered-  emailing HOt Topic customer service resulted in absolutely no answer- so per suggestion from this thread, I tried facebook. They eventually sent me a label to return 5 of the Lunas, but wouldn't actually send my Celestias until they saw "movement" on the return.

Now, supposedly, finally, well over 70 days later, my Celestias should be on the way...

I spoke too soon.  Or maybe the customer service rep LIED to me to get me to send the Lunas back. Once they were in the mail, she says OOPS! Looks like Celestias are out of stock after all! So she was willing to "add a note" to the file that I could be mailed the ponies at the price I bought them at, when they got them back in stock, or a refund.

Although I want the ponies badly, I truly cannot trust HotTopic ordering online at this point, so I asked for a refund.

To be fair, Rainbow Dash has as many Funko vinyl figures as Doctor Whooves does and at least hers look different from one another.  You have metallic, black, glitter, and regular for RD versus red tie, green tie, glow-in-the-dark (which doesn't look any different from regular), and glitter for Doctor Whooves.

I think RD being used as the exclusive pony for Target and Hot Topic is just a test before giving us different exclusives.

I agree that the 6 month exclusivity for Hot Topic hurts the sales for other stores. Walmart always has RD and and my local Barnes & Noble doesn't even carry the Funko vinyls.

yeah, that is true. I forgot Dr Whooves has had the same amount of variants.  I can understand them using RD as a test pony for the store exclusives - i wonder if they really sold well. My HT still has a lot of their RD (and Discord) exclusive, and I think my Target only ever had six of theirs.

I was really disappointed on the quality control for the metallic rainbow dash. My Hot topic got 8 of them and they all had major flaws. I actually really wanted one but may never get one if they can't get any good ones in.

I feel that the six-month exclusive deal that HT has on the Funkos hurts the other major retailers that sell them. By the time stores like Walmart or Barnes and Noble get a certain character, a great amount of people would have already bought them from HT, unless they dont live near one. Why wait six months to buy ______ from [insert store here] when you can go to HT or their website, and buy/order it from there?

I think this is ALL the reason why they are perhaps not carried as much in other stores. As a retailer buyer why invest in a product thats already been online and on shelves elsewhere for 3 to 6 months!

For smaller, specialised retailers like Hot Topic, exclusives of pop culture lines makes sense and makes money. Big national retailers appealing to much larger markets and carrying a much wider range of items, they are not going to pay per item price that they need to in order to carry exclusives unless they know its something thats going to shift in serious numbers. At the end of the day, the MLP fandom through G4 is big but its not that big its worth it to these retailers especially not when they could perhaps carry cheaper or more mass appealing exclusive products.

I went to HT yesterday and I was informed that they sold a glitter variant Celestia right when they opened, hours before I arrived! I wanted to buy a regular Celestia, so I decided to go on up to HT anyway! When I got there there wasnt a single celestia in stock! I did see some blue Discords and POP Spitfires however..... makes me wonder if the employee was fibbing about the glitter.

I've been hearing that some Hot Topic stores have only been getting a handful of Celestia figures (like 4), so it's not totally out of the question that they may have been completely sold out when you got there, Lala.

Wow, only a handful!? =O Jeeze thats so weird! Usually they will pull out cases from the back for me to pick through and theres 12 per case with all the same character inside! I wonder if they are arriving in a misc. or partial box.... Still omg Celestia is being so crazy elusive here! xD Insane to think they had sold out THAT morning! I was there around noon on a wednesday, the mall is usually a dead zone.

There have been a bunch of Celestia at my local HT, but I think I grabbed the only glitter. Really hoping Luna shows up, because the distribution is sounding really dumb.

I ordered a Luna and had it shipped site-to-store. When I went to pick it up today, I learned a couple of interesting things!

1) Funko's Quality Control. Whyyy. The Luna I got has a really craggy-looking face.
 
2) Glitter Celestia is awesome in person! (I got to buy one! Woohoo!)

3) My Hot Topic got a bunch of Lunas in with tails that are broken right at the butt. They didn't appear to be snapped off. From what I can see, they've just come loose somehow. They're being sold for about $4 a piece. If I hadn't already ordered mine online, I would have bought one of those for sure, because I figure it would be an easy fix.

I'll definitely be calling my Hot Topic tomorrow. 

Oh yeah, the quality control for Luna has been horrible.  The figure I got is very nice, but I've heard lots of stories about Luna's tail breaking, even the glitter variants.  Luckily you're right; it's an easy fix from what I've seen.

Congrats on getting a glitter Celestia!  She's so gorgeous in person, definitely one of my favorites.

The store where I picked up my glitter Luna recieved about a dozen lunas. About 1/2 of them had broken tails. The tails had broken pretty cleanly. This included the glitter I picked up. Luckily a little gorilla glue helped to reattach the tail. from the top you can't tell
It was ever off at all. On the bottom you can see there's a little piece missing but most people

I need to check my HT again this weekend. I'm worried I'll never ever find it in store and I'll have to pay like a hundred bucks to get one off eBay.
