Non Pony art Home made clock
« on: October 28, 2014, 04:14:49 AM »
I made a pyrography clock in honer of my father who served in 'Nam as a US Marine. it took me 9-10 hours (total over 2 days) to burn. I didn't use stencils or trace everything was free hand drawn including the lettering around the rim of the wood plate that I turned into a clock.  It took an hour and 45 minutes to space the letters so they could fit, it's a big challenge to space  letters on a circular surface much more so then a straight line, hence why it doesn't stay within the boundaries around the center and float off a bit. I was more concerned fitting it all in them aliment, It I traced over a emblem then used transfer paper to get it all correct it would of worked better but I wanted to try to do it myself before I did it.  My father had passed away so I did this as a reminder to his memory and to all who serve the USA. So here it is:

That is so neat! I've always found pyrography intriguing but never tried it myself, it must be hard! I really like the rope design on the rim and how the lettering pops against the rich tones of the burnt background. You did an amazing job on the anchor, too!

First clock , I've done smaller burns before but nothing like this.

Thanks, I've done some smaller pieces, nothing like this clock before, The first time I tried wood burning was in 1997 I wasn't good at it, I did some oil pencils for wood on wood but I can't find them in stores, or even online, so I decided to give the technique another go, I used a craft wood tool for this, I would love to get a pro set and see what I can do with it.  :)

That's fantastic.  We don't see a lot of wood burning in here.  :)  You did a fantastic job.
