Fantasy Film, do you like it?
« on: October 16, 2014, 06:01:30 AM »
I'm really curious about Fantasy Film and I get very little time on the internet right now, so I wanted to see what you guys might be able to tell me!  Do you like using it?  Do you like using it better than sculpting for things like wings?  Are there any great tutorials?  What's the scoop! :)  Thanks everyone!

I've only used it once, but I liked it. I would say I don't think you can compare it to sculpting, because you'd use it for an entirely different effect. I mean, if you're going for realistic feather pegasus wings, you'd wanna sculpt those. If you're going for ethereal fairy wings, fantasy film is great. You can also use it in combination with sculpting, like bat wings, mwrmaid fins and tails, etc, so yeah I really don't think they're comparable. I used it in between transparency sheet wings, but I'd love to experiment with the more freehand style where you use heat to melt holes and shape it.

This is pop-girl's wing tutorial I used for the fantasy film transparency wings I did

It looks fantastic for wings!  Here are some great tutorials- http://www.mylittlecustoms.co.uk/index.aspx?pageid=651927&rw=1

I guess I don't have a great picture of my own to show you, but a couple of the custom Chrysalis ponies/doll in this photo have fantasy film wings...

It's fun to play with, but I don't have an actual heat gun and have definitely suffered for it.  I use candles and I don't always get the control I want.  I'm kinda meh myself.

Thanks, everyone!  Argh, just not sure what I want to do and if I can spare money on something I'm not sure of!  It sounds cool if you have the right heat source!

I like to use it! I like the different results I get from it. I have used pop-girl's tutorial the most, but there are some others. Since I love making fairies so much, I have a couple more tutorials saved that I can offer.

I like it...

*pssttt... I've started using an iron as my eat source. Simply place the wing(s) between two sheets of parchment paper and iron over it, flipping when done with one side. This helps prevent burning. ^^
