Who made this custom?
« on: October 05, 2014, 11:41:59 AM »
Ok I will admit this image is not mine. I'm helping someone who is on the MLP Arena FB page find the maker of this one custom. The pony was found in a flea market in Oklahoma city, but she didn't buy the pony.

Apparently the pony had sculpting on the feet, like the boy pony feathering. It also apparently had different symbol on the other side (though at this time I don't know what the symbol was). Edit: Ok she said it was similar but not the same

I personally tried every search term I could think of, but google and Deviant Art yielded no results.

Anyone recognize her? Please remember Neither of us have this pony so we can't look for any signage.

*update* she now has the pony ;)

I'll take better pics of her with my good camera once I get chance.  There does seem to be some kind of signature under her hoof..  an anchor, its very worn down but i think i can make out some letters too.

I just checked the Arena's FB page. I can see the anchor but I'm still not sure

Poor thing- looks like she had some sculpting on her fetlocks that broke off...

Update again!
The pony has switched owners and it's been confirmed that the mark is not an Anchor but a K or an X

Quote
After wiping her down some, the symbol on her foot is not an anchor. It's either a k or an x. It looks to be part of a larger symbol. However the grime on her feet is actually old glitter glue and I's covering up the rest of the name/symbol.

I have some pictures of what this custom looks like.

So the symbol on her hoof looks like it could be a curly K, perhaps a curly K and J. Maybe even OKJ.  The year on the foot is 2008.

The pony has been rehaired with Nylon from Dollyhair. She was rerooted using the needle and thread method. The part that looks like old sculpting is actually glitter glue that has gone bad. The paint is craft acrylics.

The design seems to be very similar to a design that Colorscapesart did around the same time:

Perhaps the person was trying to do a similar design?  I'm not sure. it may just be a coincidence. There is no way to know without talking to the original creator, and we don't know who that is. yet.
I can say that the acrylics are very resistent to acetone. at least the green is.  It's being very difficult to get cleaned up.

Also the tail was done in a weird way.

I have since replaced the elastic band, tack, and twist tie with some zip ties.

I have nothing to offer as far as who made her; but, I am curious about what's ultimately going to happen to her. I mean, you mentioned the green paint being resistant to acetone. Is she being 'fixed' and the original customization restored/improved? Or is she being stripped down to become another custom?

It kind of seems to me that the 'signature' was already on the pony before she was customized. Looking at the other hoof that's in the photo, I can see that the bottom is covered in paint. That mark could have been from the original owner to brand the pony as hers.

How sad that she ended up at a flea market like that. How fortunate that pony collectors found her!

Oh yeah- it does look like they were inspired by Colorscapeart's pony.  Maybe it didn't come out so well so they donated it.

I agree the signature on the hoof could just be initials from a prior owner. My sister and I had our ponies clearly marked with a S or L when we were kids-  to keep us from fighting over whose was whose ...

Well, it could be. But I did have to remove that same signature that was painted in green. It may have been that the original creator hadn't intended to paint the bottoms of the feet originally, but then changed her mind. And since the glitter glue probably wasn't murky to begin with, she may have painted over the ink in green and then put glitter glue over that and it was possibly more visible when she first made it.

without actually being able to ask the original creator, I guess there is know way to know for sure. Although it seems odd to put 2008 on a g1 pony, even if that is when you bought her.

I am curious about what's ultimately going to happen to her. I mean, you mentioned the green paint being resistant to acetone. Is she being 'fixed' and the original customization restored/improved? Or is she being stripped down to become another custom?

As far as what is happening to her, I'm going to redo much of the design. Maybe not all of it, because I can't really tell what they were going for on one of the sides. Plus I had a remarkable thing happen to her when I started trying to clean her up.

When I started taking the old manky paint off, the first places it started coming off were the places where the original symbol had been. so I got this effect:

It's like she was telling me she wanted her original symbol back.

so it will probably be a fusion of the original design and the Moondancer symbol.  It should look really nice when it's all redone.

Me too. Me too. I didn't get a chance to work on her today. I'm hoping there will be some time tomorrow to work on her some more.

All your avatars and signatures is Moondancer, too, I think she was meant to come home with you!

Hopefully you can bring her back to something really beautiful!
