New Paypal Scam
« on: October 03, 2014, 07:32:01 AM »
I'm sure its not super new but I figured I would give ever one a heads up. There is a new email going around. It will look legit but its not. Says there is unusual activity on your account and ask you to click a link to fix it. This is a way so hackers can get into your computer and get your info. Please don't click on the link and report the email to PayPal right away using the [email protected].

I did call PayPal and they proved that is was a fraud email.

That's weird, about a minute after I read this my husband received one of these emails! We forwarded it to PayPal with an explanation. Hope they can put a stop to it!

I've gotten several of those over the years, if you look at the From address in the email, it will usually be something weird. I just never click on a Paypal link through an email anymore

Thanks for the heads up! The unfortunate thing is this is not new. There are a couple things to always remember about Paypal.  Their emails will always use your first and last name, or your business's name. They also will never ask for your personal or account information such as credit or debit card numbers, bank account details, driver's license number, email addresses, or passwords.

Hmm..seems they are getting smarter. I know Paypal's spoof email page states what I posted.

Yes that is what the lady from paypal said as well. But I've never had it say my name before which is the reason I called paypal in the first place. Most of the time it doesn't say that. Not sure how a scammer got my name though.

It' scary, isn't it? My in-laws were hit with that whole Home Depot credit card breach recently.  :( They are pretty old school, as in no computer, no internet, cell phone, etc. and she called me to ask how in the world they are using her card? I was like there are just people who are way to smart for their own good when it comes to computers. So instead of getting a real job they find ways to scam people.

Its crazy scary how smart these people are. Makes me not want to but things over the internet anymore. I feel for your in-laws cause its never a nice feeling for someone else to have your info. Especially when people work as hard as they do to have anything anymore.
