Euro Truly with black eyeliner?
« on: September 28, 2014, 06:37:47 AM »
I purchased this pony back in December 2013 from a Swedish seller that found her at a thrift shop, according to her the pony had a lot of crayon marks therefore she assumes it previously belonged to a child and not a collector.

I took closeup shots and a comparison picture with my other Truly (brown eyeliner):

I can't find any trace of flocking and unlike the deflocks I've had, her texture feels normal and identical to the other Truly but the black eyeliner makes me suspicious, any thoughts?

I can see why you are suspicious of the black eye liner.

Perhaps other members can check their ponies? :)

Something is ringing a bell for me that there are others out there with black eyeliner rather than brown, but I have nothing to back that up!

Thats a bit odd...black eyeliner normally denotes a so soft. The darker eyeliner was used in order to show through the flocking. While genuine non so softs did not require that - they have the softer greyish brown. I dont want to ask but are you 100% she is not a very good deflock? Although its certainly not impossible that there was some supposed to be so soft Trulys who didnt make the flocking stage and therefore got changed manufacture and released as a non so soft instead :)

The hearts on the symbol are a different shade of pink which can be seen in the comparison picture but otherwise the shape appears the same. I was convinced at first that this was legit based on what the seller has said but after reading up some more I'm not so sure anymore - are there deflocks that feel no different than a regular pony?

Does she have a weird little hole under her tail? Can you get a magnifying glass and look into her hoof holes for traces of flocking?

There aren't any marking holes and I tried my best to look deep around the tail but no traces of glue or flocking there either, hopefully I can find a magnifying glass to check but here's a zoomed in and sharpened pic where you can see what it looks like a little better:

All my deflocks have felt different to regular ponies after the deflocking process. I used boiling water and then acetone to remove the glue. I know some people use different products and they may not have the same effect on the plastic as acetone.

Those feet do look very clean, usually you get slight yellowish glue in the "Hong Kong" on other hoof stamps.

Do her symbols appear overall lighter (not just the heart) compared to NSS Truly?

Thanks for your input on the texture kittywinks, I've only had a few deflocks in the past and they also felt different with a slight waxy sheen but it'd be interesting to know if that is common with all deflocks or only ones that had chemicals used on them?

As for her symbols, the doves are the same it's only the hearts which are more of a bright fluorescent pink whereas it's a darker magenta on the NSS.

I agree that deflocks tend to have a different feeling - as though the surface of the plastic has been damaged in some way. And even the best deflocks have a trace of flocking somewhere under close scrutiny. However it also would not be the first time I have come across an incredibly impressive deflock that has passed as the real thing. She is a curiosity for sure. Right now I would come down on the exceptionally good deflock side but....I think there is a possibility she was never flocked at all for some unknown reason - i.e. supposed to be a so soft but made it to the nss line instead :P

I think it's just one NSS Truly but thank you squishy turdl!

I was hoping someone could vouch that they've had a Truly or Cupcake from childhood with the same black eyeliner but so far there hasn't been any indication that such a thing exists therefore I'm also leaning towards an excellent (and overpriced) deflock.

Come to think of it I can't imagine the 'Pony Friends' set had more than one batch produced considering its small and limited distribution so it's unlikely there were any variations among them.

Anyway, thanks everyone for sharing your thoughts - I appreciate it :)

I don't know if it's relevant, but a couple of years ago I found two gingerbreads, both hk and one had brown eyeliner and the other one black. Maybe it's some factory thing?

Gizmo I am going to take some detailed picture of my deflocked Truly :)

I remember that NSS Truly got sold in a few different places including Australia and possibly South Africa.
