Weird PDF Formatting - What the?

I've been working on a piece of fan fiction for over a week now in pose form.

In this work I've been practicing an old habit from my days of writing the 26th Century episodes, of once in a while loading the story into a PDF maker to see how long the story really is. This is my normal way of breaking up chapters after a certain amount of pages.

I don't understand what is going on right now in the formatting that maybe some one here could clarify. For a while it seemed I had written 16 pages worth of the story so far. Then I decided to send it to my boyfriend to read over and get his opinion of it so far since he's used to writing pose based fan fiction himself.

So after this happened, on the next PDF check, 16 pages became 11 pages.

I wondered if this was some odd word wrapping issue with my text editor, but that didn't seem to make a difference when testing theory to uncover the mystery.

This morning I wrote what I consider about a page or so's worth of work. Now the PDF maker is saying I've typed 21 pages for the  story so far?!

Nothing had been written in between the check that said 11 pages had been written. What the heck is going on here? My formatting in how I'm writing this has been steady since the start on style.

Did your margins accidentally get moved?

No, that was my first thought. I tested that theory, but every thing seems normal.

What programs are you using?

Windows default text editor and then near the end I refine the formatting in a Rich Text editor.

I'd suggest visually comparing the first few pages of the old and new pdfs.  (probably print them).  Maybe there's more line spacing in the old one?  or the font is ever so smaller?
