My NO buying online challenge!

OK, so I had to abandon the challenge. I was doing great, but my water broke at 29 weeks. I had my daughter at 29 weeks, 4 days. She's in the NICU, so I'm back to shopping online.

Starting today, I am challenging myself to buy nothing online until after my birthday, which is 2 months away. I have been spending too much time and money shopping online ... thanks, Amazon and EBay. If I can't find something locally, I check online. So my hope is that I can change my spending habits for the better and save some money.

Have any of you done something similar?

Um I can kind of say that I have done something like that. I did it in person and on line. I am very good about not spending money in person but when it comes to the internet..... its my weakness!

I hear ya, online shopping is an evil...
I tried (I really did!) to put myself on an Ebay/MLP Arena buying ban, as I had already spent my yearly quota on ponies early this spring...and that's all I buy online lol.
And it was going good....But all of a sudden ponies I needed kept popping up and for great prices and I didn't want to miss out and... yeah, I'm sure we all know how that story goes....
It's the same reason I can't stick to a diet... ponies are too tasty

I wouldn't be able to do it!    We buy our cat food and litter on Amazon because it's cheaper trough them with Prime than it is to go down to the pet store and buy the same stuff, and I constantly need stuff from fabric.com.  Good luck to you!

I thought this would never happen to me, I've always been so careful about money! I've been working for quite some time to build up money, supposedly to go back to school. That requires a lot of money, I found out.

However, recently my mom has started actually encouraging me to spend some money on myself because she says once I go back to school I won't have much money to spend ever again. >.<

In doing so, I discovered that online ordering is really neat. I began to order those things that I couldn't find at physical stores but really wanted, but kept on pushing off since I kept on telling myself I shouldn't spend my money. Turns out, those have stacked up over the years... Lol. Then I discovered ponies, and I'm afraid, I'm addicted.

I realize it as an addiction now since when I don't have anything ordered I'm feeling bad about it, like I should find something to order to look forward to! >.<

Is this what happens? lol

Set small goals for yourself.  maybe reward yourself with something that doesn't cost money--like a walk out or something similar

Good luck!!!  I couldn't do it either, I'm in the same boat as Skeen, haha!  We buy a lot of necessities on Amazon because we live in a small town and things cost more, or aren't available at the little stores...it's cheaper for me to order rabbit food and timothy hay through Amazon Prime than it is for me to drive an hour to the nearest pet store and buy it.

Besides...I'm NESTING and I can't stop buying baby things online!  LOL

I think I'll be joining you. I just went and bought a microphone for my dslr camera, as well as some disney DVDs and now I'm dirt broke. My bank needs a break!

Thanks for all of your stories and well wishes! Many of the things you've said ring true for me, too. I've actually done something similar with ponies -- I went about 2-1/2 years without buying any ponies after I found out I was pregnant the first time. If it hadn't been for Fluttershy-zilla, I might still be on a buying hiatus.

I hadn't considered the fact that some things cost a lot less on Amazon. I'll have to look carefully at prices if I'm buying something out of the ordinary. Fortunately, I think we're stocked up on dog food, and I have my coupon from Petco.

Congrats! I'm expecting my second at the end of November, so I know what you mean. A lot of my online purchases are things for my daughter, but generally not necessities. I made sure to buy her birthday present before I started my challenge. Living in a small town is a big reason for my online shopping, too. The closest Target, Toys R Us/Babies R Us and Carter's stores are about 45 minutes away.

I realize it as an addiction now since when I don't have anything ordered I'm feeling bad about it, like I should find something to order to look forward to! >.<

Haha, this might be my biggest challenge too! Sometimes, knowing I've got something coming in the mail makes me happy. I am waiting for a couple of packages that haven't been shipped out yet.

I need to join you on this. I just finished dropping a buttload of money on comic books and feeling mighty ashamed about it. Not to mention my digimon preorders.

This is exactly the reason I don't want to start shopping online. Sure, it makes it hard to actually find certain things (aka G1/G2) ponies, but I'd rather keep my possessions slim than being flooded with things I don't need/can't afford.
