Price check on complete set of US sea ponies +
« on: August 23, 2014, 03:21:14 PM »

Plan to sell my complete set of US sea ponies plus I have 2 UK sea ponies and one Italian in box. What kind of reserve price should I put on the lot and how would you professional sellers break them up to maximize profit?

all adults? all adults and babies?

It depends on how much time you have, how quickly you want to sell etc. Obviously one at a time can get the most money, but sometimes if you factor in the time spent during the selling process on lower cost ponies I find I could make better money at a minimum wage job. So this is why I do like at times splitting things into small lots. (say, all loose 84 baby seas as a set for one price)

If you go through each pony with a fine tooth comb, write very clear and detailed descriptions take lots of pictures and cross advertise ebay would likely get you the best selling prices.

Price checking, it depends.
adults
rusty inside/issues, lowest
cleaned inside (no more rust/mold), smooth hair, little issues mid
factory sealed heads, clean inside and out, perfect features, highest
Are they with shells, without, with all accessories? same for babies and acc.

Do mention if they were gross, but you cleaned them. some people are scared away by the gross factor of buying old bath toys and don't know how, or don't want to deal with the grime so they wait for one to pop up mint, or where the work of cleaning was already done. the ones I found with issues, and cleaned carefully actually sold at some pretty surprising prices to me.

They are actually all  in pretty good shape, some brown spots on the white ones and sea mist has pretty frizzy hair but most of them are great.  Whould it be way to much to put a $500 reserve on the whole lot? I need to get the money by the end of the month so I want to sell as quick as possible.

Oh! $500 for the entire lot as a reserve? If they have shells too, it'll easily be passable.

If you are not an avid ebay seller, they can hold funds on your sales (think it's up to 21 days).  so if you were to post here, take offers and also advertise in your signature and on FB groups with (link to you sale post) that you are selling them it could bring in a lot of interest (and bids) I'm sure. Do mention though that you need prompt payment in full (within so many hours/days of the end time), so you don't end up with bidders intending to make multiple payments, or to wait on the HB to send you money that doesn't come before going to the next person.

By complete I am assuming combs and shells and ribbons?
I am hazarding a bit of a guess here but I would say you would be better of selling in a couple of lots as I know the conch shells can sell for $100 a piece alone so you would make most profits this way (actually selling individually would be the best for gaining profits but its a lot more mucking around)
Maybe for the year 2 sell as a lot with an $70 reserve?
Then another lot of euros, If you have the yellow shell that shells around $30-35 alone but its hard to estimate a price without knowing who you have and more details about the ponies
Then maybe divide the year 3s in 2 lots.

So not complete with accesories, and no babies? All in fair-decent condition?

I'd do an auction here on the arena starting at $300.

Ok, I see. I also assumed you at least had the US nine, each with the correct shell, and a lot of the smaller things like ribbons, combs brushes and some stickers. (having a complete set of shells would have really driven up the price, as those 2nd edition shells typically take so bloody long to track down). I will say I am unfamiliar with the value of your Italian seapony in box. (she's beautiful!)

first edition you have the three, complete with shells it looks like. (blue shell brush and comb set you have with sea breeze matches to either seawinkle or wavedancer)

2nd edition you have all six, plus the dark mauve conch shell (seamist) and aqua conch shell (seabreeze) and some of the pink comb and brushes

Do any of the pink or purple clam shells have cream coloured suction cups matching them to UK ponies? they are slightly harder to find in the US. :)

as an aside.
I am missing UK surfdancer and her pink shell (cream/white suction cup), also the yellow shell (cream/white suction cup) that belongs to wavebreaker.
if you would be willing to sell them separately before you list your lot I'll likely buy them from you immediately (if the price check price for those is within my budget, and you are able to ship in the sturdy box to Canada)

to Fantasticfirefly: After my first post, I got an offer from a member to buy all ponies listed.  If that falls through though, I will definatly let you know.

Thank you everyone for your input

The one in box. :inlove: I wouldn't sell that in the lot, I'd sell it separate. I don't know what it goes for if it's been opened but I know I'd probably pay a good amount even still and I think many people would?

I'd probably be interested in the lot if the first buyer falls through, depending on price of course :)
