Sealed to keep the paint from chipping or being damaged.  Ideally you'd seal anything you painted, including full body repaints.  You can seal with a variety of things, but most people use either matte Mod Podge or Testors Dullcote spray.

Sealed means an application of transparent varnish/lacquer to any paintwork that's been put down. There are spray-on types and brush-on types. I like Testors Dullcote/Clear Coat for full-body repaints since it's spray-on and doesn't leave any sticky residue (I get it from the model toy section in a chain craft store). I like Delta Ceramcoat for brush-on although I know tons of people here will also vouch for Mod Podge. You can also find glossy sealants for your pony's eyes. Hope this helps. :)

Thanks! So if I'm just sealing the eyes or symbol, I just brush it on after the paint is dry? Or do I still spray the whole pony? Actually I wouldn't/couldn't do this, I'm not rehairing her...

If it's eyes or a symbol I use a make-up sponge to apply the sealer, it's quite even and gives a very light coat.

You could wrap the hair and spray it, but if your pony already has hair I'd say a brush on is probably best.  I mix mine with water and do a few very thin coats.  You can use a brush or a sponge.  I like the sponge better to avoid uneven strokes, but not everyone does.

Many people seal full body repaints before doing symbol or eye work. That way if carefully done the top coat could be removed, leaving the fbr intact.

Edit: never try to seal before your pony is 100% dry in my experience.  It's like when you do multiple coats, if it's not dry it will streak and clump up.
I'm not really on here anymore. Email me if you need my for something.
