Gauging Interest: My Little Pony Community Quilt Swap

I think there's a lot of options for both the swap format and for the materials. As long as the squares are formatted to be the same size, then the rest could be variable. You could piece together a square, appliqué, embroider, paint, stamp, transfer, airbrush, or even do a digital drawing and then print it on that printer fabric stuff. Then just mail your square. It would have to be up to each of us to sew our own quilts.

I think the ATC swap time-frame would work wonderful for something like this. And I'd be totally interested in joining! I love quilts, and I need a little incentive to use my new machine a little more.

What if 100 people join? Do I have to make 100 squares?

I would be seriously impressed if we had 100 lol. But I think a monthly format would be the best bet to prevent that. OR divide the participants into groups. I'd be wary of having more than 10 partners if it was a full swap all in one.

I don't think it would be so popular as to have 100 participants, but if we followed Zenna's idea of having it be a series of 1 month long mini swaps, even if there were 20 other swapers, you would only have to make 12 squares- one per month for a year.  And that would be only if you decided to participate every month.  I really think this would be a fun swap!

I love the monthly idea! I was a bit afraid of committing to such a huge project with new school starting at the end of this month, but a monthly thing I could easily do, as a month is such a long time that the stress can be divided to smaller portions.  And even if you don't participate enough to make a whole quilt, you could settle for a pillow cover, or even do only one round and frame the piece of fabric art you receive!

That's what I was getting so excited about - the long-term nature of it all, if it becomes an official Arena thing.  See, if it's a 12 square commitment, we could make  labels for that year's quilt. After while you'd have quite a bit of squares/quilts so you could make pony meet banners out of squares or some such...  or frame some... or whatever.  YAY!  I could definitely accomplish a square every month - just give me at least a week's worth of brainstorming so I do understand that planning/creating/shipping all do overlap at some point in the process.

I really like the idea of doing the monthly version. That way if you're busy one month, you could skip it and pick up the next. It also means you only have one partner at a time, which sounds much less stressful than having 12 partners at once!

That's what I was thinking with the idea.  You participate when you can and each month is a new swap.  Someone could do 4 months and make a little quilt to hang or someone could keep coming back every month and make a full-sized quilt.

And while I don't really have the time to host, as I'm taking on the Arena Quilt project (see announcement here: http://mlparena.com/index.php/topic,358865.0.html), I'd be happy to help whomever wants to host this one by helping with the swap format.  And I would love to participate.

I've been given the okay to host a swap like this    I will make up a request for the swap soon and if it is approved we will be all set to make this swap a reality 

I'll definitely be taking you up on your offer of advice Zenna.    I think is going to be an awesome swap and I can't wait to see all the amazing quilt squares people make!

Hypothetically I'd love the idea, however I made a quilt for my Textiles project and it took FOREVER, so I'm a bit put off making any more quilts for a while I think it'd turn out really cool with the right people though

I love the idea but unfortunately I lack the skills to actually quilt... and I don't have a sewing machine either, so even though I would enjoy swapping squares, putting together the quilt when finished would be too much for me.

A monthly swap sounds like a good format for this, however! Besides, Mirnyj has given me an idea... it would be fun to participate one month and frame the square I receive. Or maybe turn it into a pillow case, I think I could manage that.

I would absolutely love to be involved in this.  I haven't quilted in awhile, but I'm confident I could easily make some pretty pony squares for everyone involved!  I'd love to see where this goes.
