Help needed with sculpting
« on: July 19, 2014, 12:44:36 PM »
I'm currently working on a custom set of Jack Skellington and Sally for a friend. I used Sculpty clay for all the clothes and even to cover up the holes on Jack's head where the hair used to be. Could anyone make recommendations on how to smooth out the clay on his head so that it doesn't have a seam? I have to paint it and don't want a lip where the clay meets the head. Any good sanding techniques or other tricks? Thanks in advance!  ^.^

I usually smudge the line with my finger and then brush it with water to be rid of the fingerprints and dirt.

If you've baked it you can use some sandpaper. I dunno how it would look as I'm not accustomed with customizing like that.

And if you don't prime first I recommend sanding it anyways. I've noticed that the paint will stick better.

If already baked wet dry sandpaper will worked.  If still wet and not baked you can use water or a little rubbing or denatured alcohol for smooth it.
