I've seen both of these terms several times around the board, but I still haven't learned if pony cancer is the same as age discoloration. Could anyone shed some light on this, please?

My understanding is that age discolouration (regrind) is due to the vinyl wearing down and changing colour.  It's believed to be caused by old vinyl that Hasbro melted down and used with another colour and as the vinyl has aged, the 2 colours separate. So, you can have a purple pony suddenly start to have large pink blotches.

Cancer is completely different - it looks like small brown spots. Again, most likely caused by the wearing down of the vinyl.

So, I guess they are similar as they both are most likely caused by the aging of the vinyl, they just look different.

There are pics and information at the MLP Preservation Project site:

Shadowlark sums it up! They are different problems both caused by age.

A lot of people use different words. Personally I have always used age mark/discolouration in the same context as cancer. And regrind as being a different thing. Therefore age marks/cancer are pretty much the same thing - different words used to describe the same type of plastic breakdown - the dark brown dots or under the plastic brown shading.
