Princess ponies tinsel hair
« on: July 15, 2014, 03:51:00 PM »
I'm sure someone has raised this question before, I just couldn't find any info about it..

The second set of princess ponies have those long tinsel forlocks, I have a number of them that have been trimmed... really we were into that as children... (I can't point any fingers, I slightly trimmed my very own sunbeam)

The question is, is it easy enough to re hair the forlocks? does anyone have a link to a guide or tutorial.. and more importantly does anyone have a link to where I could buy some replacement tinsel.. ?

(not sure if this is more a customs question?) Looking forward to hear some answers

I believe Retro Dolls US sells a lot of different tinsel, and from my understanding, you root it like any other hair, pretty much.

Uncut but crinkly tinsel can be straightened fairly significant with just the use of a blow dryer with a hot enough setting.  Won't make it factory straight, but does significantly improve really crinkly ( But NOT stripped tinsel, it's done for once it's stripped ) tinsel to about 75% straightness with a lot of patience.  Found that out last night, actually, when I was setting some curls on a new Taffeta and Moondust.  They had really crinkly tinsel, and then I noticed as I kept the blow dryer on them, and it was blowing over the forelocks it was getting straighter and straighter!

That's a hard one, I have seen tinsel from craft store but it is VERY  thin and fragile  >_< and it can be a challange depending in the rehairing methonds and how you comb it

An easier idea could be to use Fizz saran hair from Retro Dolls, I haven't tried it myself but I have seen pictures of rehaired ponies wit this and it looks mush easier to use http://retrodollsus.weebly.com/special-effect-hair.html

You can see examples of fizz in this thread :)

Thanks MiRaja, I'm going to have a look into it.. I'm wanting to go for the full retinsel.. as the few I have in mind actaully have very nice thick tinsel but chopped down to about 1.5 - 2cm :(

Sapphire : That looks to be a lovely option! I actually would love to rehair a few others with the fizz!

The biggest problem I have in finding a match for deep green (a la - Pristina) coloured tinsel. I like to buy from mylittlecustoms as I'm in Germany and the postage just for hair from the US seems totally unreasonable.. but they don't seem to have anything close to a match..

Oh you certainly can reroot it :) Its just the same as normal rehairing - the only thing I would say is that the tinsel is a pain at breaking so just be really careful and if you are gluing make sure you are absolutely happy with everything as adding more tinsel afterwards is a nightmare.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
