My First Job Interview!
« on: July 04, 2014, 10:15:56 PM »
Hey guys, I managed to get my first job interview! It's tomorrow at three at McDonald's, but I'm soooooo nervous. I don't know what to expect since I've never done this before ever. I was hoping you guys had a couple of tips for me to help me out please? Like what to wear? What they will expect? What to do in order to successfully get the job?

Happy Fourth of July!

I think you should review common interview questions (googling will easily bring them up) and know what you're going to say. You just need to show them you're a nice person who is reliable, punctual, and will be a good worker for them. :)

I hope you get it!

And don't wear jeans, flip flops, etc. Maybe that flies for McDonald's I dunno but that's pretty much a universal no-no from what I understand.

Dress to impress. If you have a nice suit, wear it. Don't wear jeans. Tidy hair.

As it's an entry level job, I don't think the questions will be too hard. If you've worked before, they will ask about prior positions, your responsibilities, etc. Even if you just have volunteer work on your resume, they may ask about it. If you haven't had a paid job before, volunteer work still counts as experience, so feel free to talk about that in answering questions. If you haven't volunteered, you can use school work as examples. Like, if they ask about working in a team environment, you could talk about working on a group assignment and how that played out.

I don't know if they'll ask this for an entry level job, but I've found one of interviewers' favorite questions is to ask about a time you had conflict with someone and how you resolved it. I HATE that question! LOL So, have an answer ready for that, just in case.

Other questions that may be asked:
  • Tell me about yourself
  • Why do you want to work here?
  • What are your career goals?/Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
  • What are your strengths/weaknesss?
  • Describe a time you worked in a team.
  • Tell me about a time you had conflict with someone. What brought on the conflict and how did you resolve it?
  • Tell me about a time you had to deal with a difficult customer.

McDonalds has some good interviewing tips on their website: http://www.mcdonalds.com/us/en/careers/working_here/interview_tips.html

Have some questions to ask the interviewer, as they almost always ask at the end, "Do you have any questions for me?"  Questions you could ask:
  • Why do you like working here?
  • If they haven't given an overview of the position, ask what the day-to-day responsibilities are.
  • What are you looking for in the ideal candidate?
  • As your last question, ask what the next steps of the recruitment process are.

If you have a nice notebook, take it and a pen and jot down their answers and any info they give you throughout the interview. They will be taking notes on you, and it shows enthusiasm if you take notes along the way as well.

Above all else, be confident! Great the interviewer with a firm handshake, a smile, and eye contact. Continue to make eye contact throughout the interview. Remember to thank them at the end.

Hope this helps! Good luck tomorrow!

Congratulations!

Thanks for sharing this point in your life.

It will be hard work but it's a good feeling being part of a team.

I enjoyed the feeling the first time I was part of something other than school, hope it's a good experience for you.

Never say that theres nothing wrong with you.  NOONE is perfect and you are almost guaranteed to shoot yourself in the foot if you say something like that when they pull one of the harder questions.

Mention one of your faults if they ask it--but then say how you are actively trying to improve on that fault or atleast state that you realize you have it.  That will impress them more then saying 'I don't know' or 'I don't have any'

I don't know how an interview in MacDonalds is but I know sometimes people are asked about how much they want to earn and the clue is that you shouldn't say an specific amount, you can say something like "what is established by contract (union contract, I don't know if you say this in English ) and according to my responsiblities"

Tell us tomorrow how it was! Good luck!!

Congrats!!! What was the question that stumped you?

He had said, "I already have 50 people working here; so what do you bring that's better than them?"

I don't even remember what I said @ - @

Thanks for your post. It had helped the most.

Thank you to everyone else, and thank you for the congrats.
