What can I do with old textbooks?
« on: June 13, 2014, 07:02:27 AM »
So, I still keep my textbooks from five years ago... my mother say that they might already changed the textbooks used in school thus mine are useless... but I can't see them in the recycling bin. I can't keep them neither. I might ask in my old school if they still need them so other students can get them second-hand. But what can I do if they don't accept them? These can still be used for something!

No idea, because I still have all of my old books, from grade 1 till grade 13, and grade 13 was 14 years ago ... but we have an attic to store stuff.
If they are still clean maybe you could try to sell them online, or at a fleamarket?

Some used book sellers including online companies, will buy back old textbooks, although I don't know if that's actually worthwhile or what's available in your area.

You might want to give them away locally for free. Sometimes people like having things like that.

Donate them somewhere. You could even try auctioning them off if you like. I know I like looking at old textbooks, I'm sure others do too.

I would honestly try to sell them first. Textbooks are not cheap! Even if they're a few years old I'd fetch a guess that most of the info in them is still relevant. :o)

There's a few fun crafts you can do with them, like paper flowers and what not (and apparently a book bar!). A few may be worth something, but I would guess that if they're 5 years or older you might not be able to sell them to someone like Chegg. I donated my unsellable books to my library. They happily took them!

Oh, and I've seen these neat shelves made from books! I've wanted to try it myself.

Ooh, those crafts are cool!  :)

I kept my ginormous Art History book but honestly, most weren't worth much even right after I took a class.  They probably aren't worth much 5 years later.

If you aren't crafty, I'd suggest donating,  I see them at thrift all the time.

I'm not sure if Amazon is a viable option where you are, but I was able to sell back some of my used textbooks in exchange for Amazon giftcards.  I donated the rest of the books that I couldn't trade-in to Goodwill.

Old textbooks have little value, but if they are only a few years old- you can donate or sell them.  If your university is still using the same text, the surrounding bookstores will often buy them for a decent price.

Although I will admit I LOVE the book bar!!!!!  The shelves are cute too- how creative!   I will admit I kept my books far too long and then ended up just dumping them off at a thrift store to be done with them.

Check BigWords.com .  It's a site that scans all the major booksellers.  Just put in the barcode number and you can find out if anyone will buy them. :)
