New Lion King movie next year! :D

Kopa?  Was he entirely fan made?  Because the lion cub at the ends of the original movie could be a girl. Couldn't she? 

I don't consider any character that's in an official Disney book as entirely 'fan-made', but eh. In almost all of the books I have, the cub is described as a boy. In fact, in this very book:

...Before the next page promptly reads 'King Simba was very protective of his little girl cub, Kiara'.

I won't lie - I received the Six New Adventures books just days after the VHS was released, so I was very familiar to Kopa. Even though I knew he was basically Simbatwo, I really adored him (since cub Simba is my favorite character of all time). So when the sequel came out in Blockbusters, I saw the front cover and immediately thought 'Wait, who the heck are you?!'. I know I'm not the only one who got confused with this, and books like that will only raise further questions. Disney have had ample time to correct that, but for one reason or another, they choose to leave the 'son' part in.

I suppose this could work now with Kion at least.

I have to laugh because that is EXACTLY the same text that was in the Little Golden Book!

I think it makes sense that they originally had the cub as a boy.  The movie was about Mufasa's relationship with his son, so they came full circle and created and ending where Simba has a son.

Then they decided to do "Lion King 2" as "Romeo and Juliet but with lions" and I think they felt "overprotective father of a daughter" played better than "overprotective father of a son", so here we are.

Oh!  Nala also had a sibling originally--a little brother named Mheetu who always wanted to follow her around and do whatever she and Simba were doing.  (His name's a pun on "Me too!")  They were going to include him in the first movie originally, but then they didn't.  So he's kind of in canon limbo.

He was in at least one Disney comic, I think.

I hope Simba has the same voice actor then. that would be great! he was the same in 1 2 and I think 1 1/2 also...
if they don't that will be disappointing.

Matthew Broderick is simba's voice actor and looks like he's not doing it according to IMDB

I see no mane, only hair. A lady cat could have a little bit of ruffed up fur. I see no manly cat parts.  don't you start no cat fight with me!

In The Lion King, all the female characters are a tan colour, and all the males are a darker yellowish colour (excluding Scar). Obviously when this movie was made the creators weren't thinking about how a sequel would be made, so they just made the cub a boy, so the movie was a "full circle"

Well, that one girl cub in The Lion King 2 did have a hair tuft.  (Zira's daughter.)  But yeah, in the first movie all the males were a brighter hue than the females.

What if . . . Kopa grew up but then left to become a wandering rogue lion?  Maybe he had an adventurous spirit.  Kiara could have been from a later litter.

Ohmygoshohmygosh! As a HUGE TLK fan I am super excited, especially since it ISN'T in 3D!  Can't wait!

But yeah.. it always bothered me too how the original cub was a boy, then suddenly it was changed to a girl in the sequel.  They could have at least given Kiara black ear rims to look more like the cub at the end of the first movie to make it a touch less obvious...

They would probably have Cam Clarke, if Matthew doesn't revive the role, be the voice of Simba as he did the singing voice for Simba in Simba's Pride and he's just absolutely spot on!

I'm mildly intrigued.

I haven't been particularly impressed by the glut of Disney's most recent sequels (Cinderella 2, Ariel's Beginning) with the exception of Cinderella 3.  But Disney seems to be making better choices lately.  I'll certainly give it a chance.

*Btw, I had no idea about Kopa but Disney often contradicts themselves between stories and film.  Hence the whole Beast/Prince Adam debate.*

The idea really intrigued me at first, but I know I sound shallow, but the fact it's pandering it pre-schoolers kind of makes me think it won't be that great. The first LK was so epic....

Right there with you. I'm worried it won't be as enjoyable. But I have a somewhat high tolerance so as long as I find it adorable and at least mildly interesting and/or funny I'll probably be into it. But yes.. I'm pretty wary because the quoted target audience is so low. Goodness.
