New Lion King movie next year! :D

They were only released as a box set. There was also a German audio cassette.

I thought the original did get a 3D remake?  I distinctly remember wearing the ridiculous glasses and complaining about how none of the music sounded like I remembered.

It was rereleased in theatres a few years back, the same movie (traditional animated) but visually cleaned up and in 3D. Not CGI 3-D, but "you need glasses to watch it" 3D.

Thanks! I don't have that set. That's why I don't remember Kopa. And the box art is bugging me. It looks like young Simba with adult Simba. The mane looks like Mufasa's, but the face is clearly Simba.

At the end of the first movie, the cub held up was supposed to be a boy. However, when Lion King 2 was released they decided that Simba and Nala should have a girl, so the boy was completely scrapped. Popular theory is that he was Kopa and Zira killed him, hence her exile and why Simba is so protective of Kiara.

Kion looks so cute, although I had hoped he would be Kiara and Kovu's child. xD But yay more Lion King!

I am looking forward to this. I didn't have any hope for Sofia the First when I heard about that and I quite like that show (it's a guilty pleasure show for me, hehe), so I have faith that this one will be good too. For some reason,  I could imagine The Lion Guard being something like a "animal/lion version of Sofia the First" as far as cameos go.

RIP, Kopa dear. I'll see you in Epic Mickey 3, at least!

Heh in my little headcannon, Kopa doesn't "exist" because  (prior to TLK2) Zira killed him, thus enraged Simba and he exiled her and the other rebel lionesses to the Outlands.
But before I read what his name was, I thought it would be Kopa in the pic.

Yeah, I thought it was going to be Kiara and Kovu's child too... Oh well, it still looks cute. I quess we'll just have to wait and see if it's any good or not

On the book cover the adult is Simba and the lion cub is his son, Kopa.

Yeah, the cub at the end was originally supposed to be a boy.  I have a Little Golden Book that has a line about Simba and Nala "proudly watching while their son was presented" or something like that.

There's a place online with scans of the "Six New Stories" (about Kopa, Simba's son), but I can't find the website right now.  They're really good!  There's one about Nala as a cub that I really like.

Was the cub every officially called a boy by Disney?  Or were these just in books and things were they assumed it was a boy and Disney never really verified either way? 

It just seems so odd they would decide in the second movie she is a girl.
