Happy Monday! When I arrived to work, momma was out, so I got a real quick look into the nest! Look at the 3 adorably ugly babies! :D So big already!

June 9 - SQUIRREL ATTACK!

So I'm sitting here and I hear the robins start to squawk, but it wasn't their normal noise, it was a panic noise. I look out the window, and I see a SQUIRREL on the rafter about 5 feet from the nest!! Momma and Daddy are going NUTS attacking it, but it's not backing down!

Am I going to put up with this? HELL NO. So I grab my camera's monopod stick, hop up on the chair I've propped by the window, lean as far out the window as I can and start banging the wall and yelling. Squirrel suddenly decided it that it wasn't worth it and retreated. I stayed out there until the squirrel was gone, (probably looking like a loon hanging out of a 2 story window, but I didn't care). No one attacks my robins!!!

Daddy did sweeps back and forth, and after a few minutes, things finally settled and momma returned to the nest. You can see her tail feathers fanned out in anger. I hope the babies are ok, I can't tell right now... maybe later *if* momma leaves the nest I might take another quick peek... but I think the family has had enough stress for today.

How exciting!! I worked an agriculture job one summer and there was a robin nest on our yard. I'd sneak a peak every now and then at the babies, and then one day they were gone! Must have graduated and moved out of the nest.

We also had a Killdeer nest which was neat to see. Totally camouflaged in plain sight (we put some markers up so no one would drive over it!), and the parents are super protective! Neat strategy they use to lure predators away from the nest. Babies can walk almost as soon as they hatch, and then they move on! I saw the baby for a day or two before they were gone. Out of harm's way!

Pouring rain all morning, so the babies have been sleeping soundly. Momma's been checking on them a few times, but I think she's out feeding.

I was just about to head home for the day when I noticed baby is poking out of the nest, so I had to get a shot of momma and baby! Hi cutie!

Bigger everyday, and feathers growing fast! Starting to get more mobile too, I can see them wiggling about and poking their beaks out more.
