Idea: A handbook to restore Ponies
« on: May 12, 2014, 01:16:28 AM »
So while cleaning my Ponies yesterday for display I came with the idea to perhaps start writing a book/guide with all kinds of information how to restore ponies. I work a lot with Adobe Indesign so making the pages itself should't be a problem. I''m also planning to use my own material and information. Ah well, here are some brainstorms:

- An intro ofc telling who I am
- A brief history of MLP with all the generations
- A list of all the common supplies used and their meaning:

- Aceton
- Shampoo
- Conditioner
- Magic Eraser etc...

- All the different flaws a pony can have like discolouring, frizz, cancer spots.
- A guide how to restore all these things with possible alternate solutions
- A rehairing guide + how to make your own rehairing tool
- A Styling guide with how to make some really nice hairstyles
- A styling guide for show accurate hair for the Mane Six

And probally more which I all forgot. XD When it's finished I hope to have around 50+ pages. When it's done I will probally put it up for sale as a .PDF file or printed. ofc high quality print! I can give Arena Members a discount perhaps. I'm not sure if I will only make an English one, or maybe also a dutch one.

As so far I have some good pictures but there's one section I won't have the marterial for and thats "Sun Fading" if you have any materials to share like pictures and before and after pictures. Please let me know and I will include them and I will of course give you credit! :D

So what do you think of this idea? Do you think it will have potention? Do you have more suggestions? I would like to know! :D I'm probally gonna start already this week.

Thank you!

This sort of thing sounds very useful! Of course there are websites that are similar to this idea; a physical format would definitely be more useful in ways. I've also been thinking about video tutorials, but I don't have the guts for that.  >_<

I like the idea, but honestly, the problem for me would be that there's already a really amazing website for pony restoration made by a member here.  There is loads of crowd sourced information, and links to the relevant tutorials and products, even links to re-print instructions and stickers from G1 playsets.  I personally wouldn't be interested in buying a PDF because all the info I've needed is online already, for free.

Thanks may just be me, though.  Good luck!

I was going to say: there are awesome guides online.
However, I LOVE books, so I'd definitely consider having a book, even though I can find it for free on the web, and even though I know most of the tricks. And I'm sure I'm not alone :)

I agree with Shaiyeh. Honestly, you could probably find information about anything online nowadays, but that doesn't stop people from buying books. Some people, myself included, prefer to have a hard copy. A book that consolidates all the information in one place, a book that they can take with them wherever they want, a book that they can write in or jot down notes in.

I own all of Summer's MLP Collector's Inventory Books. Sure that information is available online in many places but I personally love those books. I love that I can take them anywhere, that I can write in them, and that they contain all the info I need in one place. Her G1 Collector's Inventory is like my pony bible. You can tell just by looking at the book that I use it all the time! :P

So yes I would be interested in a book like this, and I do believe many others would be interested as well.

I think its a great idea :) And a fun project for you.

My only concern would be that so much information out there is as mentioned committee sourced and referenced - its sometimes nice for it to be done that way and therefore things can be changed as new techniques are found.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

There's a bait reference guide on the Wiki that's nice.  :3
It has a "Restoration Recommended" list.
