SDCC exclusive - EXCLUSIVES ON HASBRO TOYSHOP

I actually really like the Mane-iac and Spike because I loved the Power Ponies. I did like the idea of a brushable, like many others have wished, but I don't think it would have looked right for this character (they can use real hair for the doll because they don't have to match an actual character image). Styled special addition Zecora and Nightmare Night Rainbow Dash are evidence enough that they can't quite get it right even with simple styles. I'm not too shocked they went with this character as many seem to be; it's an event often associated with superheros, and last year when they showed some storyboards of the episode at SDCC, it got a good reception. I'll admit $50 is a bit much, but with how fast all their other exclusives have sold out, I imagine they think they can get by with it.

I am not liking the doll. As many others, I am sad that mlp has moved away from just ponies... I might like her better if she had just green hair, but I am just not satisfied with the doll quality of EQG anyway.

Thank you to those advocating for not creating a divide between older collectors and newer collectors. G4 brought me back to appreciating older generations, and it's by far what I mainly collect and have a heart for. It hurt a bit to hear people calling out for a boycott "so Hasbro will listen to collectors"; I'm a collector too and though I wouldn't mind a new G1, I like this product.

I suppose if someone feels like they're stuck with an unwanted pony Mane-iac and Hum Drum due to a pre-purchase, I'll be in the market for one!

The one thing that I believe people who are calling for a Special Edition Pony aimed at the collector market are missing here is the fact that we HAD our own collector-centric ponies. They were glorious, but they didn't sell...

The Fair placed short run orders with Hasbro for 1,000 pieces and out of 1,000 we were lucky to move 300 at a Fair event. The rest were sold online, through the Fair website or placed on Ebay by Fair organizers (back in the day when they were allowed to sell on Ebay- we can't now due to contract.) The last year that Winged Fantasy coordinated the Fair(back in 2009,) she personally was stuck with over 700 unsold ponies after the event. I'm willing to bet she STILL has unsold Peacock Art ponies taking up space 5 years later.

When I took over the Fair, I personally fronted the funds to purchase the 2010 Fair Pony. I didn't have enough money to purchase a full 1000 pony run since I was basically starting the Fair over from scratch, but since I had a prior relationship with Hasbro (due to my books), they agreed to allow me to decrease the Fair order to 500 pieces (I'm not sure where the other 500 went- Probably in some Hasbro warehouse.) It took me 18 months to sell them all (a quarter of which were sold at our cost just to get my initial investment back.) The next year, in 2011 I was able to repeat my order of 500 figures. Three years later, I STILL have Egyptian Art ponies to offload.

As collectors, we feel like we are this driving force of revenue for Hasbro (I also felt this way before I was on the other side of things,) but in truth we are a tiny drop in a very big bucket. It is amazing that Hasbro acknowledges us at all. I am grateful that they do and they respect our lasting passion and commitment to their brand by being involved in our community.

Even if you don't like the Comic Con figures we've been offered he last 3 years of the Fair, please try to appreciate the fact that we get something. Hasbro could have dumped their support and interest in the Fair completely, but instead have stuck by us and helped us grow our event.

Hopefully, in the future we can support having our own "Exclusive Only to the Fair Pony," again, but until Hasbro can be sure that I don't end up with 300 Ponies in my basement, I don't think we will be given that opportunity.

I try to avoid quoting large posts in full, but I think this is important to see again while this thread is moving so quickly and it's already on a past page. Also, SweetTune, many thanks for writing it! There are, naturally, a lot of discussions along the lines of "this or that idea would sell like hotcakes!" around here, and it's always really hard to get any kind of actual numbers on anything, so it's great to see something like this... I mean, even if the actual contents are kind of depressing.

I think she's a great pick for SDCC (being in a comic/superhero parody and all), but to be honest, it (the pony) looks like a custom than official. Other than the photo probably being of a hand-painted prototypes than the final product (glossy head, etc), the hair looks too lumpy at the base as many molded-hair customs do. Maybe the tendrils are each on their own swivel joint or something, but it just looks cheap.
But to get a pony and small accessory for $50 seems kind of high (assuming she's princess size), it would've been much nicer to get the mane 6 with their painted-on Power Pony costumes. Yup, I seriously am saying I would've PREFERRED a mane 6 set!
I just don't care much for the dolls but I will admit the doll version is cute and a much better price.

tldr; Good idea for SDCC, but doesn't look worth the price.

As someone who LOVES the previous Super Hero/Super Villain ponies, I'm mainly disappointed that this is a one-off character... I'd love if it it was one of the Mane 6 as a super hero! But the quality of this looks poor, and it's kinda...boring.

i hav eno hate for anyone. unless there jerks. like i siad before I know  nice Bronys and i know mean collectors and i know some really Jerky people who are bronys.

but really the who cocnept of the show is  morals and stuff. nad torlance nad friendship and i think   that  it isnt the  exclsives that birng out htis whole bronyss  vs collectors debate. 

I think its more..   that the  collctors arent being    listened to really. and      so of course  when a fandom is THIS  old  and you have people whoa re stirctly one or the other i thinkt hat words a re   always  going to fly and blame each other   even if it  i s or isnt merrited. hoenstly i dont care what gens people like. everyone is entitield to like the  ponys they like. and  nobody    should ever     feel like there  ebing  critisized for the gens they like/or  dont like.

Exactly! I personally am not upset that it's G4.  In fact, I love G4s and have a huge collection of them! I just hoped they would do better, and like others I would have preferred something different or of better quality.  That's just me though

and i dont mind MOST   g4s. i love zecora dn dr hooves.  but dont  get me started on  what i think the big pricnesses and soem of the smaller ones look like. then agian i have the same issue with  g2

lol i have ALWAYS  been obseessed with unicorns since i was very young.  i  used to look   for solid white horses and such when i was younger.  so  yeah it was strane when i first heard soemone say that  and i think  my reaction was  excuse me?    thts a horn  lol  i    thinkt hat they didn't realize what it meant and proably went "oh! this word is nice and nobody proably knws what it means so we'll     call them    "alicorns"

Oh my gosh Wouldnt it be AWESOME if they had more MLP exclusives to announce? Now im only dreaming here...but what if they made a blindbag set of G1 ponies in the style of the Transformers yearbook class of 1984 but with G1 PONIES!!! G1 ponies in little G4 blindbag shapes! In a yearbook display case!!!!! xD
