For those who asked, the beads were just threaded onto sewing cotton (chosen as far as possible to match the underlying colour) and then glued on. I used to have areas on these ponies (such as under the tummy and around the tops of the legs) where I didn't thread, but just glued loose beads on, but those would fall off if the pony got knocked or fell over, so the first few beadies live in ziploc bags to stop the beads getting lost.

I've spent a while refining my technique (don't I sound posh??) so that all the beads are threaded at least once. In the problem areas, some beads end up with three or four threads through them as I try to make sure all the thread is hidden as far as I can, though sometimes it is visible. Which is why I try to colour match the thread, which is why I have to use sewing cotton rather than actual bead thread, which would be a lot tougher and won't stretch over time. 

My first beady has threaded bead hair too, on sewing cotton, and that has stretched so there's almost a centimetre of plain thread visible at the top of each 'hair plug', bother it. But everybody makes mistakes (I keep telling myself that!) and I still have her, as a reminder to keep doing it better ^^
