The sad thing is that people like this priest have actual power and are opinion-makers, they aren't just confused people running through the streets and shouting "the end is nigh", they have an entire system behind them.
Sure, we still laugh about it and go "oh, those fundies~" but you bet there are quite a bunch of parents who won't buy this toy anymore just based on what the priest has said and who will torture their kids with the thought of an actual Satan trying to steal their souls and drag them into hellfire when they die.

I feel so bad for the children who have to grow up in such households.

I grew up with a VERY strict mom who was against a lot of toys and cartoons because of potentially being evil So this doesn't surprise me too much. While our church was never against them, my mom sure was. I was like, "How come the pastor's daughter can watch The Hunchback of Notre Dame but we can't?" My mom eventually caved in to nearly everything though so I got to have my Giga Pet, comic books, baggy pants Barbie and blue nail polish
