You are going to know the context and tone as well as the personality of the person commenting better than the rest of us. But on the surface of it, I would say that seems a perfectly innocent comment with no hidden meanings. I would just have agreed if it had been me
My mother-in-law(who knows I'm a pony collector) asked me what my hubby got for my birthday. I told herabout the ponies and she laughed and said "you'll be 99 years old and still getting ponies!" I laughed too and didn't say much in response. But I thought her comment was strange. I love my mother-in-law. She's very sweet and doesn't make fun of my collecting. She even collects lots of things herself(dolls, music boxes,jewelry-to name a few) so I wondered why she said that. Am I reading into this too much? I keep thinking about what I should have said and how I'm sure her comment didn't mean to hurt my feelings. It just bothers me but I know it shouldn't. What would you have said?
