adoption, and hope I made the right choice :-)

Hi all, I have 3 wonderful kids who we adopted from foster care, the first 2 are brother and sister, they are now 9 and 11 and we adopted them in 2011..well we decided to become foster parents early last year and our very first foster son who is now 15 we decided to adopt, his mother signed her rights away and we adopted him December 19th, 2013. He is a great kid and we love him so much, I tell him I love you so much that I would do anything for you, so I decided to email his birth mother, tell her what a hard choice it must have been for her and tell her how wonderful her son is, My son Dillon has it in his head me and his birthmom are supposed to be friends and talk and meet someday.  She wrote me back and with tears I read as she told me how much this meant to her and I must be an angel sent from God, it made me want to cry, that was last week and we have talked on the phone twice, and I let him talk to his mom as well as long as they were on speaker phone. We even have plans to meet next month and she is bringing  a gift for my son as well as my other kids! She has been so sweet and even though my son can't see or talk to his brother (adopted by another family) I feel a calmness over him talking to his birthmom. She refers to us as his parents and he refered to us as mom and dad while talking to her too. I told him, you have 2 moms who love you very much! I think adoption is a wonderful gift, and I am so glad I made this choice, I just hope everything goes ok when we meet!

Thanks for sharing your story. You and your kids sound great. I think it will be good for Dillon that you get on with his birth mum.

My partner and I are hoping to adopt one day and sometimes it is a bit disheartening hearing only about the 'issues' of adoption. It's good to hear about people working together to make a better life for adopted children.

I hope our adoption goes as well as yours have when the time comes. I think it's awesome he'll be able to connect with his birth mother too and that she's being so great with the whole thing. It's good when kids can know their biological history and about their biological family I think. It can help them understand themselves better. And could even be super useful for family medical history if that's ever needed. Your kids are adorable and always look super happy so I'm sure you are doing the best you can for them and this is just another instance of that.

That sounds really wonderful, and it sounds like you have a wonderful family.

I definitely feel adoption is a beautiful thing-- my little cousin is adopted, and our whole extended family wouldn't be complete without him.

I think it will go well.    Adoption is a wonderful thing.  I myself am adopted, and while I have never met my birth parents (and I don't really have a desire to), I love my adopted parents all the same.

You are an inspiration! I'm a ways away from having kids of my own, but my little sister is adopted and this is something I want to do in the future as well. A heart like yours is too rare and beautiful, and we need more like it in the world.
