Baby Seaponies have holes in their heads?
« on: April 20, 2014, 09:34:00 AM »
Just recently I unearthed a bag of my childhood ponies and I had Baby Celebrate in the bag, which reminded me of sitting in the tub as a little kid playing with her!  ^.^ But then I saw the little tiny hole behind her ear and I remembered how confused I was about this back then.

Is there any explanation for the hole in the back of the Baby Seapony heads? In the instructions or something? Thinking of it now, the only thing I can think of is either:

1.) It was so water doesn't get stuck in there and cause mold or

2.) You're supposed to fill the pony up halfway with water so it kinda floats in the water with its tail down instead of looking like a dead goldfish. XD

Someone please explain this mystery, if it has an explanation! lol.

Oh someone mentioned this in a thread earlier wen they found the baby ponies with holes in their feet! Yes it's to fill them up with water so they can float upright in the tub or sink :)

I always used them as water guns in the tub when I was little. ;)

But I think they were mostly to let the water out of them so they wouldn't get so gross inside.

I thought they were like blow-holes. You suck water in and then squeeze them to spray it out.

LOL - I am loving the idea of them being blow holes. That is totally what I wish they were!

As mentioned unfortunately its the very ordinary reason of making sure water did not get stuck in them. They were after all designed to be used in the bathtub and the last thing I can imagine a parent wanted was a water filled toy to make it back to the bed/play room :)

But then wouldn't the adults have holes in their heads too? Or did they? I have Year 2 seaponies and they don't have holes in their heads, but that was before the baby seaponies were introduced so it might have been a later feature. Do later year adults have holes like the babies?

The adults do have holes in their heads as well. All of the years should have them. Do your ponies not have them? Thats quite cool!

Ohhh hmm maybe I just never noticed them on the adults! The only adult seaponies I have are the three Year 2 adults, for my Rescue at Midnight Castle display, but it's in storage across town right now so I can't go look at them at the moment. :blush: Probably they do have holes and I just never noticed, since I got them for display, not to play with. ^^;

Now the holes make sense, especially for the adults that have that metal washer to weigh the tail down. They wouldn't want water to get stuck in there permanently!

When I was a kid and I played with mine outside in the pool, I put flowers in the little hole so they could have pretty hair while swimming!  :D

Because its tucked behind the ear and under the hair it is hard to spot unless you are actually on the look out for it. It would be soooo cool if you had some without the holes though. :)

That was what I thought they were....  I totally played with them when I was younger and had great sea battles with water cannons.

The sad thing is the holes didn't always let all of the water out. I lost all of my childhood sea ponies to them getting moldy inside except for Baby Celebrate. I wasn't allowed to play with her in the bathtub.  I did replace my Year 2 Wavedancer several years ago. She stays far away from water. :)

Ponyfan, I found exactly the same :( My childhood sea ponies (both baby and adult) are in various stages of manky!

My mum wouldn't let me play with all my seaponies in the bath *sad* I was allowed to have one only for the bath, the rest had to stay pristinely out of the water. I so wanted to have a whole fleet of them sailing round in the bubbles.

But now I can totally see the point my mother had in mind, because the one pony that stayed in the bathroom is pretty manky looking. I must find a replacement for her at some point!
Thank you *wyvernchick* for my lovely avvie!
