The "Big-Heads" have officially skewed me
« on: April 15, 2014, 10:27:48 AM »
The Big-Heads have skewed my dollies aesthetics.  It's official.  I now think most other dolls, you know, proportional ones, look weird. As compared to my Pullips and Blythe. Way to go Big Heads.

Also, I've looked at so many art bjd's that now regular bodies look abnormal.

How about you guys?  Any of you have skewed dolly sensibilities?

Definitely. Most of my BJD's heads are bigger proportionally than the bodies, so when I plopped a Dollshe Bernard head on a 68cm body and it was like... Peanut-head by comparison. Proportionally it is more correct than the other dolls, but it still looks bizarre to me. (With clothes it's not so bad)  :drunk:

It's also really disconcerting when I got a few 1/6 Hot Toys bodies that are more realistic in proportions. I kept looking at them and thinking that they were too squat... Either way, I'd still like to get a few Cy Girls, but I know the "stubbiness" of the legs would bother me a lot.

For sure!
The big heads have skewed my dolly proportions too. Realistic sized proportions make heads look so tiny in comparison, and it looks very weird.

While not really what you are talking about, the size of some playline dolls (Monster High, Ever After High, etc) has skewed my sense of proportion to the point that I got a Barbie doll recently and thought she was terribly strange.

Funny how that is.  ^.^ I tend to prefer dolls with not necessarily large heads but with round faces and softer, often anime-like features that a lot of dolls seem really realistic, angular or narrow-faced to me.

I think it's funny, since I've been into dolls several years now, that things like visible joints, or nude or disassembled dolls don't phase me. I forget that something like removing a headcap and changing eyes on a bjd is really odd and possibly disturbing to someone who is not into dolls or has never seen such a thing.  You just get used to it.

I think it's odd how I feel like the EAH dolls' heads are 'too big' when I don't think that about, say, my Hujoo clan... And I'm SURE the difference is not major. But I think it's because my brain wants the EAH girls to be more close to the MH ghouls. Maybe because their bodies and limbs are more slender.

Otherwise I'm usually very used to the BJD proportions, sometimes including very large heads, so I think with the EAH dolls it's just that I expected them to be similar to Monster High and when they came out their proportions were a bit different.

I don't tend to like dolls with those puny heads! Giant heads are the way to go!

All my dolls have to have big heads. Normal sized heads are just weird for me.

Me too.  I remember thinking Pullip heads were really bizarre but after a year of having one, I think they're just right.  All doll proportions like super long legs and long necks have messed with me just a little. :D

Fortunately, I don't look at people and think they should have bigger heads and skinny long necks.  Haha.

I'm very partial to big headed lovlies <3. I started doll collecting with Pullips in 2011, now I also have Blythe and a couple big headed BJD's. So I definetly love big headed dollies the most :D.
