Restoring tips - twinkle eyes and colour remover
« on: April 05, 2014, 12:06:16 PM »
Hi! I'm in the process of restoring my twinkle eyed Masquerade. She was in bait condition when I purchased her, but when I moved house she got a bit worse. She seems to have been wing to wing with Wind Whistler in transport, and the pair of them seemed to have rubbed to have created a purple like mess on their wings that looks like purple ink.

I don't know what else could have caused this but them being in close proximity? Is there a word for it? And is there any way to remove it? I have tried acetone, basic soap and water and paint remover.

I was also wondering if there is a way of restoring twinkle-eye eyes?

>>> here are pics! The purple is worse on Masquerade then on Wind Whistler. Guess the pair of them had a fight wing to wing!

As FarDreamer says pictures will really help :)

However, if you have tried magic eraser with no luck the next best bet is sun fading. I would try that initially :)

It looks like they were exposed to a marker.  I'd try acetone then sunfading.

Was there anything with ink or printing on it or nearby?  That kind of color transfer is not really possible between those two ponies in my experience.  The only thing that comes close is "saddle sores" from the pink saddle / bridle from the Show Stable.

Sunfading is your best bet if acetone and Magic Eraser didn't budge it.

I'm not sure if there was ink around, but I agree, I didn't think it could happen without something being in contact with them. I don't know what it was though.  I shall try sunfading - not to sound foolish, but do you literally mean exposing her to the sun on a windowsill? :)

I forgot to mention the purple feels a little rough to the touch.

Check out the pony restoration project for sunfading instructions. But yes you cover up everything except the ink marks and put them on a windowsill or out side and check them often

Yes I am going to agree - that doesnt look like a pony to pony transfer but it could be something like a smudge of ink which has been on one and then they have both rubbed together to cause that. Sun fading is the best bet.

Incidentally, does anyone know tricks to restoring twinkle eyes? Or at least, replicating the twinkle eye effect in some way? :)

Do you mean the iridescent coating? Unfortunately you cant get anything which replicates it exactly. Some clear glass paints and pearlising paints will give you a similar impression but they always tend to be a little too cloudy in finish unfortunately.
