Alltime favourite just HAS to be JRR Tolkien - can't beat the LOTR trilogy

In the same genre and currently on her third series (I think) is Maggie Furey, similar quality to Tolkien a bit of added humour :)

Beverly Cleary was my absolute favorite when I was younger, I would spend hours with a pile of her books, a snack, and a quiet place to read. Others whose works I enjoy are J.K. Rowling, J.R.R Tolkien, Cornelia Funke, Kathryn Lasky, Diana Wynne Jones, Ursula K. Le Guin, and Jan Brett. They're to blame for my love of fantasy!

I should mention Christopher Paolini as well, whose Inheritance Cycle was one of my favorites as a child. It's very sad that he plagiarized so many other authors, though. </3 (Granted, that hasn't stopped me from holding onto my IC books, they're nostalgic for me.)

Ah, a topic I can really get into, I love books! My favourite author hands down is Kelley Armstrong, she writes the Women of the Otherworld series and is a lovely person!

I'm seeing so many people say Tamora Pierce which makes me happy! I was wondering where all the fans were hiding because in all the years I've been reading her Tortall stuff, I've only met like two other people who had read anything by her. But I absolutely love her stuff. :inlove:

We're talking fiction only?

Its fiction and non fiction just anything you like to read.

Oh!  In that case I'll add Jared Diamond (who wrote The Third Chimpanzee and Guns, Germs and Steel among others) and Fareed Zakaria (who wrote The Post-American World and The Future of Freedom) because they both write in a way that shares piles of interesting facts and opinions without talking down to the reader.

I love Tamora Pierce too, but have any of you ever read Meredith Ann Pierce?  She's also a REALLY good YA fantasy author, and her imagery is amazing.  I honestly like/love everything she's written, and she's been around for 30 yrs.  Try her Darkangel trilogy for vampires, or the Firebringer trilogy if you'd prefer unicorns.  (Or read both!)

For straight-up fantasy generally considered for adults, I've loved Mercedes Lackey since high school.  I want to be a Herald in a Valdemar novel!  Lackey is pretty well-known; I'll bet a lot of members here like her too.  I think the Last Herald-Mage trilogy was my favorite, but if you haven't read any Valdemar books, try to read them in order, and start with Arrows of the Queen.

And for YA books set in the real world, I love Wendy Mass; her books always have an interesting premise.  A Mango-Shaped Space is about a girl with synesthesia, a sensory condition that does things like giving colors to words (warning:  this book is bittersweet).  And Every Soul a Star is a gorgeous story; some mismatched kids become friends when they meet at a campground to watch a total solar eclipse.  Some of her other books sounded interesting too but ended up not seeming as strong to me when I read them.  But Mango-Shaped Space and Every Soul a Star were both brilliant!

And yes, I love Harry Potter, LOTR, The Last Unicorn, and lots of others that have already been mentioned, but I wanted to suggest something new.  Try them and find a new author you love.  :)

Nirvana grails:  Reverse Gusty (upgrade), Peru Windy and Moonstone (upgrade), Brazil TAF upgrades, Argie Powder w/ white hair (upgrade), French Windy and Moondancer (upgrades), Spain TAF's, TE's, and piggies.  These are my biggest wants, but I'm looking for tons more nirvanas, especially Greeks, Brazilians, and Peruvians.  Feel free to PM me for sales or trades.  But please note that I'm also fairly picky.
