Has anyone ever seen this before...?

I opened up a Sundance that I got recently, and the first thing I noticed was that she was... er... "leaking sticky". Yep, that's right. Though there was nothing very visible on the inside of her body that looked like staining. She was badly discolored all over but, anyway. Here's the weird thing...

I pulled out her tail and I see this?

It's like this... weird green "glue" - its ridiculously sticky. And the weirder thing is, there's none of it on the side of the washer that would've touched her body, it's on the "backside" of the washer.

So... does anyone have any idea what this is? I've never seen this type of substance before...

I actually found some of this stuff on a real horse saddle I was cleaning the other day.  I honestly have no idea what it is, but it was a pain in the rear to get it off!

How weird. Does it look like she's been opened? Looks like a poorly-thought out tail repair. Either way, that discoloring you mention is odd. Poor girl...

Oh, i know that...I had something similar a few weeks ago!  My backside was discolored and also "leaking sticky"...a good course of antibiotics cured it right up

Ok, yeah, i'm no help. I've never seen a pony with the green stickies before. Has it gotten onto the pony or the hair? It looks like something that i've seen in automotive works, but that color is common for a lot of resins and adhesives...

Strangely enough, I've seen similar on the metal portions of tack as well! I always figured it was some type of oxidation compound left over from exposure to moisture, dirt, etc. What type of metal are those tail-washers made of, anyone know?

I think, for the most part, they're just some cheap steel or composite, since sometimes they rust (inddicating iron) and sometimes they don't :/

It seems to vary based on the release of the pony. 

I showed my husband the photos and he thinks it's an industrial glue.  He thinks maybe the tail popped out and someone's handy dad glued it back in.  He said it's usually used as a thread glue, to help things like bolts and screws stay in place.

I actually know what stuff you guys are talking about with horse tack, haha! It has gotten into the tail and it feels very straw-like and sticky. I think I can fix the hair but, it was just one of the weirdest things I've found inside a pony!

Its on the wrong side to be intentional glue. I would guess its some kind of residue from the factory; probably left behind and just never dealt with and that has perhaps oxidised or discoloured along the way [or perhaps was green all along].

The green stuff on tack is copper oxidation (like a copper roof thats turned green). Its from the brass fittings.
