Build A Bear's Repair Hospital - Sad Update #2 :(
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:20:44 PM »
Ok, so I've heard that BABW has a bear hospital, but I can't find any information on it. I may be in the need of their services. I was changing the clothes of my BAB Hello Kitty (the white one!) this evening for an Instagram photo shoot. She's been wearing a pink Hello Kitty t-shirt for a very long time. Now her body is pink!  Her head is also dingy, not a white as the rest of her.

Now, I normally have no problem cleaning and repairing stuffed animals myself. I want to mix up a batch of Oxi clean and throw her in. But she has a sound box in her paw. It no longer works, but I still don't want to soak her in water with that in there. Plus I doubt the Oxi Clean will remove the pink.

I'm thinking about taking her with me to BABW when I go to make Rarity. (Most likely that will be on the 5th.) I at least want them to remove the sound box and stuff her a bit more. But if the Bear Repair Hospital can remove the pink I might try that.

Has anybody here used the Bear Repair Hospital? How much does it cost? Do I have to prove I bought her new? Because I can't, I bought her off Ebay. Since it was a BAB shirt that stained a BAB plush, would they repair/replace her for free?

Here's the picture I took for Instagram.

I haven't used it before but it sounds like it's worth a shot. I hope they can help.

You don't have to prove that you bought her. Just bring it in to your local BABW and they will help you with the paperwork. After however many weeks they call you to come pick her up. I think you can also opt to have her sent directly to your house, but that may cost extra.

I worked there for over a year but never actually dealt with a bear hospital inquiry directly haha even though I had seen bears come and go, so I have no idea if it costs anything. :( The sound box and stuffing is something they will do in-store for free and depending on what supplies they have available may try to get the pink stain off for you, but if it's beyond their capabilities then it sounds like the bear hospital is your best bet.

If you bring her with you someone there will be happy to walk you through it!

Thanks for the replies! I guess all I can do is take her in and see what they say. I'm just worried that it's going to cost an arm and a leg like the American Girl doll hospital. If that's the case it would just be cheaper to get another one off ebay. I think I paid about $5 for this one.

One of my daughter's bunnies lost both her eyes :(

I emailed Bear Services to inquire about getting Stephy fixed up, and they asked for a picture of the injury and her tags (the sewn-on ones). Then all I had to do was fill out an 'intake' paper and bring her into a BAB store. They then sent her to the Bear Hospital, and about 6 weeks later, she came back with a health report card, and a Bear Hospital tshirt. I even got an email from them while Stephy was at the Bear Hospital, telling my daughter that Stephy was being very brave, and would be home soon. Totally free of charge, and Stephy has her eyes back!

I am forever a fan of BAB because of their customer service.

Thanks for sharing your story! That's so cute that they email you about her being brave. :) And I'm glad to hear that its free. I checked ebay after I made my last post. A naked white HK is currently selling for under $10 (+ shipping).

Change of plans. I'll be going to BABW tomorrow afternoon. I'll update this when I get home.

Well, Hello Kitty isn't making a trip to the hospital. The employees told me that the hospital doesn't do deep cleaning. All they would do is use the same cleaner that they sell in the stores. I already tried that. I did have them remove the sound box and restuff her. I'm going to try soaking her in Oxi Clean and run her through the washer.

If I have time I'll mix up some Oxi Clean tonight. But I want to take some pictures of Rarity in different outfits first. I'll keep you guys updated on how the cleaning goes.

Hello Kitty has been soaking in the Oxi Clean for about 45 minutes now. I just rolled her over to her other side. Her dinginess is gone, but the pink is still there. I tried to take some pictures of the pink the other day, but it's so light that it didn't show up in the photo.

I soaked HK in Oxi Clean last night. It got the ding out but the pink was still there. I put her in a pillowcase and ran her through the wash. When I took her out of the pillowcase she was BLUE!!!!! The pillowcase bled onto her.  :bawl: The only thing I can think to try is bleach. :help:

I'd go with the bleach as a last shot. Always use white pillowcases- but I'm sure you know that by now. :\

I don't even own a white pillowcase. All my cases have cartoon characters on them. I've never had this problem before. I've done this same process countless times. I even put in one of those color catcher sheets. It came out white.

I'm open to any suggestions.
