What is your favorite Studio Ghibli Film?

The Cat Returns is my favorite but I feel that it is also underrated and does not get as much love as Spirited Away.

My list:

1) The Cat Returns
2) Spirited Away
3) Howl's Moving Castle

Spirited Away!   Not only is it a beautiful movie with a great story, it's a nostalgia thing for me.  Ah, high school. xP

My top favourites include (in no particular order):

The Cat Returns
Whisper of the Heart
My Neighbor Totoro
Ponyo

And I've only had the time to play a little bit of Ni No Kuni, but it's great so far.  Very whimsical!

Howl's Moving Castle. Sophie is a wonderful character (although most Ghibli protagonists are, I guess)! My list -

1. Howl's Moving Castle
2. Spirited Away
3. The Cat Returns

Also, honorable mentions to Pom Poko, Princess Mononoke, Lupin III and Grave of the Fireflies (very deep, and real proof that anime isn't always for 'kids').

Mononoke Hime, Howl's Moving Castle, and From Up On Poppy Hill.  Grave of the Fireflies is a good one but so so so sad!

I picked Spirited Away, but my answer is probably actually Castle in the Sky.  ANd I think half that is because Cloris Leachman was in it, and she's just awesome.

I love so many of them but Only Yesterday is my fav. Whisper of the Heart and Howl's Moving Castle are towards the top of my list too.

I voted for Arrietty, that film makes me so emotional, that and the Secret Garden never fail to make me cry. Now I'm imagining a Studio Ghibli adaptation of The Secret Garden, that would be so perfect...

It was a hard decision to make though and if you'd asked me in a weeks time I probrebly would have said differently. Other favorites include Castle in the Sky, Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle. I'm also very fond of The Cat Returns and I always watch Kiki's delivery service when I am ill.

I actually found My Neighbor Totoro to be very underwhelming, I wouldn't watch it again. Princess Mononoke wasnt as amazing as I expected but it has the best Soundtrack of all the Ghibli movies! I really disliked Ponyo and while it wasnt on the list (is it even Ghibli?) I found Nausicaä to be an absolutely horrible film.

Yes and no - IIRC Nausicaä was created before Studio Ghibli was actually formed, but many of the people who worked on that film went on to work at Ghibli, and it's considered a Ghibli film. If that makes sense Personally I like it, although I didn't really understand a lot of it - a bit too abstract for me ; Heh.

No probs! Yeah, I can totally understand how it wouldn't be for everyone. I'm like that with Princess Mononoke - I can appreciate that it is well done, but it's a bit too violent in places for my tastes .
