G4 customs - help!
« on: March 01, 2014, 08:19:30 AM »
I'm in the process of making my first G4 custom for myself.

How do you get the hair out of the head?  The hole is only about 5 millimeters wide and none of my tools can get in to grab and pull the hair out.
Are there any alternative methods to remove the head hair?
Am I supposed to cut out that piece from the neck like you do with the plug from the body with an x-acto knife, so that my tools can get in there?

Thank you! :dizzy:

Cut the hair as short as you possibly can and boil the head. This will soften the plastic and make it easier to get a pair of needlenose pliers in the hole, and also soften the glue holding in the hair. Take a flathead screwdriver and scrape the hair from the inside to loosen is, and then take your pliers and pull out the clumps.

or you can use hemostats- http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Hemostats.jpg  I've used them with out having to cut anything after softening up the glue in hot water - they are long and narrow,  and I found them better then needle nose pliers.

Yeah, those will work too.

I have a pair of craft needlenose pliers, which are a little narrower than what you'd normally find in your toolbox. I just like using them instead because I feel like you can pull out bigger clumps all at once. But hemostats will work too - I always forget about those.

I also gently take an exacto knife and slice each "side" of the head with a tidy slit (makes an x overall) so that the plastic still grabs the neck plug but will open to allow tools inside more easily.

I use hemostats too. It's the easiest way as far as I can tell.
