3D Printing and Dollies
« on: February 24, 2014, 09:21:53 PM »
I know many of you aren't on the MHArena, so I thought I'd share this over here, too.

We recently got a 3D printer for our household (we are super nerds) and I wanted to show off the 3D Printed doll that I got.

Meet Quin, the world's first doll created for desktop 3D Printers. She was sculpted/modeled by a toy designer that has worked with Mattel (according to their website) If you are in the market, you can download her files here. You have to have a 3D printer or be willing to pay a print service for her, as you are only getting the digital files.

May I just spam you with some more photos of her?

You can see more photos of her and a full review at my website.

I've also been working on printing some simple shoes. I designed these myself, so they are very simple.

I'm super excited about all of the things our 3D printer can do and will be doing! I just wanted to share this joy with you and see what you think of Quin and my shoes?

Isn't it amazing? :D
Quin is full of possibilities! Are you going to leave her as-is?
And those shoes are nicely thought of.

NICE!! We've toyed with the idea of getting a 3D printer, but, alas, the feeding of teen boys has kept us from doing so! XD Thanks for sharing! Love the elegantly simple shoes and can't wait to see more soon!

Thanks, guys. Our printer is an Up Mini that we got from Amazon. 3D Printing has come a long way, and desktop 3D printing is just now entering a feasible price range.

Quin is amazing. I can scale the model down before printing and have a slightly smaller one, or vise-versa. I'm trying to perfect the one I've got now before doing many modifications. I'll probably give her face some details with paint.

I made a different pair of shoes tonight:

She looks great!

I love the potential that 3D printing has for changing the way dolls (and so many other things!) are made and distributed!

Wow you managed to print a whole doll, very cool! There is a printer on the swedish market now for around $900 but it's supposedly not very good. But I'm looking forward to seeing you and other dolly people getting creative with this new technology!

Ohhhhh I can see how a 3D printer would become addictive, especially for doll shoes...  :)
