How to go about selling a large collection?
« on: February 19, 2014, 04:26:42 PM »
I'm thinking of selling my non mint G1's in favour of buying mint G1's, as Some of my G1's are really manky haha. I was thinking of thinning my G3 herd too, since I don't collect anymore. Would I sell them individually of in lots? What's worked for you while selling a large amount of ponies?

I don't like to suggest eBay, but that's where I've had the most success with lots. It's really hard to sell individual ponies unless they're rare if they're not in great condition.
Will always trade for limited edition/90s Pikachu stuff!

I don't know how much you're looking to sell them for, but I've had luck advertising pony bargains ~$3-4/pony here on the sales forum when I wanted to clear out some of my extras.  They ranged in quality so some people got some real bargains.  I've also picked up a few on the sales forum here in similar "bargain sales".  People tend to buy several at once so they go fairly quickly.  If you do this, I'd obviously price some of your rarer ones higher, but if you're mainly looking to sell common, non-mint ones maybe that's not an issue.

Good luck!

Generally selling individually works better unless they are pretty bad then "bait lot" on ebay might be a good bet

I think it depends on how poor condition they are as to whether lots are necessary. Alternate rehairing and restoring are so popular right now. I am sure if you were to offer them as bargain basement ponies with discounted prices to reflect their condition, you will manage to rehome them all. I would picture them in batches with a couple of sentences on their individual problems and I am sure you will get lots of interest here :)

Good luck with the upgrades!
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi

Thanks everyone! A lot of my G1's are classed as baits, because I'm not very good at restoring hehe. I'll probably keep some of my sentimental ponies though.
