Barbie - New Campaign - Unapologetic
« on: February 18, 2014, 07:58:42 AM »
I just found out about this the other day. Apparently Barbie has posed for the 50th Anniversary Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Magazine and an exclusive doll will be released at Target. Part of this campaign is the idea of being "unapologetic" for who you are. Mattel wrote an article on the collectors website from her perspective on why she did the photo shoot.

Mattel also as part of the campaign made a post on a different website with what her resume would look like after 55 years.

I remember my sister scrimping and saving for "Executive Barbie".   Now she is an executive herself and loved to wear pink.  Go Barbie!

I actually love this marketing ploy. I know its getting a lot of negativity from a lot of different groups. But being able to integrate a brand so completely into mainstream life in this way and continuing - 50+ years after her launch - to have the top selling fashion doll [internationally when all markets are combined of course] is fantastic. And I love the material they have put out to promote the line again.
Thank you Matcha for my gorgeous Baby Fifi avi
Loa is my love god!
I love Loa more than PonyLady!
