Opinions of de-winged Funko?
« on: February 15, 2014, 09:10:49 PM »
I tried to remove a Funko Vinyl RD's wings, and was hoping to do the same with a Twilight, but I was wondering if anyone had any advice to make it look better next time?
I took the entire wing out and filled the hole, I had hoped to cut off at the body line but there's a gap that would need filling anyway. I'm not very good at colour matching paint, it looks okay in the photo but not so perfect in person... if I were to give her a FBR it would look better I guess but I'm not a fan of those either.  :P

Does anyone think it would be worth de-winging a Princess Twilight into a Unicorn? I'm tempted to order another to give it a go.
Opinions?  :)

I think she looks pretty good!

Funko Twilight's wings are attached a little differently than the pegasus' it seems.

It looks like they were glued on as an afterthought rather than part of the mold. It's clearer in the... well, clear variant.

To me it looks like Twilight's wings will be easier to remove than a standard pegasus, but I would have to see her in person to properly assess it. I'm not great at this sort of thing anyway.

Good luck! Please post your results when/if you test it out. :)

Thanks ^.^

Actually Twilight's wings are attached similarly, I've inspected her and it looks like she'll have a large hole if I carve the wing out the same as I did to RD. I might try cutting it off at the body and filling the gaps, I'll definitely post pictures if I give this a proper attempt.

Whoops! I hadn't realized she'd been released. I thought she was still in the pre-order stage.

That's too bad! It looked like you could just wrench off the wings with enough muscle power but looking at the clear variant again, I see where they would attach like Rainbow Dash's.

My Fluttershy's wing popped off from loose glue, so carving and cutting isn't nessesary. It leaves a hole, yes, but it looks clean.
When the Equestria Girls dolls show up in stores and you end up with unneeded doubles, PM me! I'll buy them!/i]

I think they got an early release in Aus?  :P
I tried wrenching RDs wings off after she sat in the hot car but they just wouldn't come, so I went with surgery which got a little messy since this was just a test.
My biggest worry is filling the hole smoothly, could I do it with clay? Colour matching with paint is a pain as well but I can't do much about that except keep mixing until I get it perfect.
