Candy swap anyone? ~ Gauging interest
« on: February 10, 2014, 12:50:22 AM »
Hi everyone! I am considering of hosting a candy swap here, and was wondering if anyone would be interested in one? :) I was thinking of a budget of 15 to 20 dollars in candy only. Shipping may be monsterous since the candy quickly piles up in weight but I think the fun would be worth it. :P So what do you think? :)

Oooo, this one sounds sweet :D (pardon the pun, i just had to) I would love to join this swap!

One of the things you would have to do is look at what sorts of sweets can and can't be imported/exported. I know that my southern neighbours can't have things like kinder eggs.

You may want to check with your borders restrictions on shipping and be sure its ok to ship that much candy to another place <3

It's nice to hear all of you liking the idea, I can now start working on the rules with a good spirit!  ^.^ I'm thinking of a nice no rush schedule with at least a couple of weeks for sign ups and a few weeks of shopping time, so everyone will have enough time to pick lovely local goodies to show off.  ;) I want to make as many international pairings as possible and at least pair up people from different states of the US if people are reluctant to go international or if there just aren't enough intl people to share to the US people. :P

Good point on the customs regulations, I'll need to have people checking them out right at the time of sign ups so there aren't going to be any unpleasent surprises.  :lookround: I've sent and received these kinds of packages before but some might not have.  :)

Oh right, and to begin as soon as possible is my goal, so it won't get to summer when it will be too hot to send chocolate!!! :freak:

That sounds great :D I should be done both of my swaps by the time this one gets started (I'm in 1 official, and 1 private.)

And melty chocolate is no good, makes for messy package :drunk:

Oh man, normally I'd be salivating (literally) for this, but I just had dental surgery and can't eat a lot of stuff for weeks stilll...why must the fates be so cruel?

But if enough time passes before it gets going maybe I'll be able to participate!

Ooooh, I'd be into this! There are five different cultural districts I can name off the top of my head near me so my partner can expect lots of things with labels they can't understand. c: (And I have a trip to San Francisco planned! Ghiridelli anyone?)

Would non-candy extra be allowed? Nothing huge, like stickers, a keychain, etc.

Sure, but not counting towards the swap budget. :)

To get some more interest going/discussion, how about we talk about our favourite sweets?

For me, I love dagashi and other japanese sweets! my favourites are konpeito (The little star-like candies the sutsuwari like to eat from the movie "Spirited Away",) Pocky, Kracie DiY candies, Neru-neru-nerune, Neri-Ame, and lots more.
