Quarterback Restoration!
« on: February 07, 2014, 11:19:29 AM »
Poor Quarterback came to me in pretty bad shape. I'm not very experienced in pony cleaning and restoration. I'm wondering if there is anything that can be done for him at this point or if he's just too far gone. What would you do? Would you try to restore him? And if so, how would you go about doing it? Would you toss him in the bait bin? Or is he too far gone even for that? Any suggestions or advise would be greatly appreciated! :)

Update: Okay I have decided to try my hand at restoring him. I was pretty sure that was what I was going to do, but I wanted to get a few opinions before I decided. So you can now consider these his before pictures! Thanks so much for all the suggestions and advise so far! And please feel free to keep posting more, I'll take all the help I can get. :P

Personally I would bait him in that condition. His symbols are almost gone and he's got plenty of marks/cancer.
But I'm sure there are others that would say just to clean him up best you can and add him to your collection.
I think it just boils down to a personal preference on your part.

If he were mine, I'd have a blast with a full restoration. A FBR and new hair, he'd look as good as new! But that's me. :art:

Honestly, I wouldn't bait him.

Yes he has issues. Most are typical Quarterback issue like the cancer... but he does have bad symbol rubs.

But, if you fixed up his hair, gave him a good inside/outside scrub down, and sold him for a discounted price (compared to a Near Mint Quarterback), I am POSITIVE there is somebody out there that's dying to have a Big Brother but can't afford the high prices of the nicer condition ones. ;)

He looks dingy, but definitely salvageable! Looks like he just needs a good scrub down, defrizz, and a paint touch up.

You might want to dab the cancer spots wit a cotton swab dipped in acetone. I haven't had to do that myself yet, but I hear that supposedly fades it a little and prevent spreading? Just be sure to test somewhere inconspicuous like under a hoof first, and rinse the pony off well afterwards.

Hair can be fixed with boiling water, lots of conditioner, and a straightening iron if you have one.  ^.^

I agree with Sunshine, so many Quarterbacks have age marks its easier to find them with it than without it! So for that reason I dont think he is necessarily in horrendous condition in comparison to others. Because you wont be decreasing his value in any way, I would be tempted to try a proper restore first, including a symbol repaint. :)

However, he is very much your pony and you should certainly go with whatever you want to do!

I agree, he is totally salvageable!  Symbol wouldn't be hard, nor would hair and a clean up.

If you decide to sell him, PM me!  I'd happily take him and fix him up.  =]

I'm so glad that you've decided to restore him. That lovely uncut hair has so much potential! His symbol is so very simple you could easily restore it. Best of luck, hope you'll post pics when you're done!
