Olympics are now on!
« on: February 06, 2014, 12:56:27 AM »
And they're on!

EDIT: CANADA HAS A BRONZE!

______________
I like the Olympics, and I hope that whatever disasters that are definitely gonna befall this year aren't fatal. I still feel so bad about the deaths at the Canadian ones the last Winter Olympics.

Skimming over Russia's current Russia-ness (anti-gay laws, corruption in the building, security problems), the current problem on my radar is: the Jamaican bobsled team's equipment has gone missing and remains unfound as of nine hours ago.

I'm not sure I'm still gonna be awake in time to watch the opening ceremony tomorrow, but I hope it's as weird as Canada's was. I just hope it doesn't end like Canada's, with Nickelback belting out pre-recorded tunes while to a confused audience.

Or a giant beaver float.

<-- honestly can't remember what happened at the Summer Olympics right now. It was in London, right? With the really bad logo?

ALSO! I want everyone to root for Rudi and Paige in the figure skating because I went to high school with them! Don't ask me if I noticed them, just that I went to high school with them. I expect they were busy becoming ultra athletes.

I hope it will be peaceful...

London's Opening Ceremony was epic :D With Her Majesty being one of the Bond girls, with Mr.Bean, huge Voldemort defeated with a group of Mary Poppin's and so many more! It was like the whole UK's culture in one place and it all made sense somehow :lookround: I'd recommend watching it, just for laughs... I used to re-watch the ceremony all summer, especially since I had a very bad flu when it had taken place and couldn't really watch it

Youtube's official Olympics Chanel has the whole thing :D Just type in the 'london opening ceremony' and it should be the first result :)

The only positive thoughts I have on the Olympics is that it might take some people who would've seen a movie to stay at home instead, thus making life easier for me, lol.

I am a Winter Olympics fiend... I watch every event and get all sucked into the tv production and the athletes stories of training and trial... I'm a total fool for it. I don't generally watch television with a fan girly geekitude ... Really! this is my one weakness  >_<

As a child my family always watched the Olympic Games together, I have so many happy memories of watching them, going all the way back to Lake Placid in 1980. I watched the Miracle On Ice w/ my dad and we jumped on the couch and cheered when the US team won hockey gold. I collected skater autographs for many years too, I got to meet so many of the greats that were on the Olympic team.

The Olympics are fun in that we can all watch them together, and talk about it no matter where on the globe we live. That's really neat. I am not patriotic so I cheer for everyone that impresses me, not just my home team. A lot of my relatives cheer extra hard for Norway and USA and Canada and Great Britain though ;)

Alas So much bad press and controversy this year and not the athletes fault, I'm sure if they had the power to stop time or change host cities that many would. For one, I am going to try hard to ignore it and just enjoy the show and hope for everyone's safety.

Stocking up today on popcorn and other tv time snacks, plenty of cocoa powder, tea cider and cinnamon sticks, and preparing to snuggle up on the sofa with my Nagano games mascots plushie and lose myself in the snowy world of winter sports for two weeks :)

I absolutely love watching the Olympics too.  I remember being down in Los Angeles for the 1984 Summer Olympics - I have pictures of seeing the horses.  (I was only 5).  That also started my love of collecting Olympic pins.  :)

Don't get me started, the Canadian opening AND closing ceremonies were abysmal at best.  We are supposed to show the world what Canada is, and that certainly was not the case..infact, it probably started more rumors then anything else.

All IMHO ofcorse.

I didn't realize the Olympics were on until I stopped by the TV this morning and saw some skating with the 5 ring background.  I cant believe its been 2 years, already--how time flies!

I love the olympics!  I will be GLUED to my TV for the next two weeks and with the exception of the Walking Dead on Sunday the channel won't change!  I love all events, the ice skating is definitely a favorite but I also love the skiing, snowboarding and curling events.  I'm so excited!!!
