Boysenberry Pie - variant query
« on: February 04, 2014, 02:00:51 PM »
Just a quick question to ask if it is common for Boysenberry Pie to have two different shades of purple?  :)

I have one that is a pale lavender shade with a 'China' hoof stamp and then had the chance to buy one in a darker purple.  The darker example has a 'Hong Kong' hoof stamp.

I'm curious as this is my first variant/duplicate pony in the herd - couldn't resist the lovely dark purple.  :lookround:

MyLittleWiki has the pale version as an Italian if that helps any?

Thanks for reading  :beerchug:

Purple is notorious for fading out/color rubbing off of the pony (I'll let somebody else open that can of worms). Both of mine are Hong Kong and a dark purple. Plus one is hard as a rock-lol. Could definitely be batch differences...

There is quite a bit of body colour difference [and sometimes eye or symbol colour difference] in some of the heavily pigmented ponies which were made in both Hong Kong and China. So both the ponies you have look normal for where they were produced. There isn't an Italian version of her just the HK and Chinese versions. Its not so much a variant, its simply that she was produced in 2 different places.

Congrats on owning both versions of her she is a lovely pony!

I'm not sure, but in the case of the fancy pant babies, there where two "sets" the one sold in the USA and the one sold in Europe. One was made in China (sold in Europe) and the other I think it was Thailand and sold in the USA.

They are difference in the ponies: eyes, length of mane and tail...

Maybe something similar happens with this set? In Spain we only got 4 of the 6 Sweetberry Ponies: Strawberry Surprise, Boysenberry Pie, Cerecita and Mermelada (sorry, those last two I don't know the names in english).

I guess they used different materials in each factory and that is why there can be differences.

It's definitely a difference of US vs UK (probably Europe, but I don't know for certain) releases. I have both variants, and the dark HK came from a US seller, whereas I got the lighter China version in a big lot from the UK many years ago.

Congrats on your first variant!

You can find both versions on both sides of the pond :) We did not get Cranberry Muffins or Blueberry Baskets over here but both of them exist as China and as Hong Kong versions. So unfortunately its not as specific as US v international.
